Re: In preperation!! Good Afternoon all. OK i've left you in suspense long enough.....I took a call this morning from a good friend & he shoots!! Nothing unusual there but in september through the winter months he shoots alone & he has said to me when Charlie is up to scratch i can work him...he said no pressure as he normally finds his game on his own, so if Charlie has a bad day or runs off with a big fat pigeon there is no problem.....he did add that when Charlie is as good as they get, he will take me on the big shoots with all the others...now that for me is a great honour & i'm sure Charlie will be up for it as well ;D ;D but that's for the distant future...just got to have all the fun first....27 days tomorrow ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Dave, lots of work to do with Charlie, I'm not sure running off with a pigeon is quite the order of the day but I am sure there will be one or two gundog folk on here to help you along your way with training him not to only 27 more sleeps, how on earth are you going to cope. Re: In preperation!! That is exciting! As I understand it can be tricky to find the right time and place to introduce a dog to a shoot and often (as you might expect) the shoot is about the guns and the shooting and not about the dogs. 27 and counting ;D

I am off to sunny Derbyshire for the weekend...hopefully it will take my mind off Charlie...but i doubt it : I have tried for years to get on a shoot as a beater but the door has always been slammed shut on me!! this is why i am excited about going out with my mate, we'll have a great time as we get on so well, so it's all go but i'm not rushing it....i really want to have fun & lots of it. Have a great weekend everyone , i'm not back till Monday

Re: In preperation!! It's really difficult to get on a shoot round here as a beater, I would love to just to see what it's all about. My eldest son used to go when he was about 13 years old and he had a great time and made good money. My neighbour who used to take him would always give him the raffle money too and he would have a great lunch. Not bad when your 13 Have a lovely weekend Dave but you know it won't take your mind of Charlie Helen x
Re: In preperation!! Dave,Pippa's has already written a puppy book that covers early days training and preparation,I'm not at home at the mo to tell you what it's called but go through on the gun dog site,thats where I found it ..I bought is as a deal with the grade one gun dog training book.
Re: In preperation!! Good morning all, Back from a blinding weekend in Derbyshire, now for the big countdown ;D I will have a look for Pippa's book thanks for that. I came home to a delivery...my Total Recall arrived whilst i was away. So plenty of ready to do. The weekend didn't take my mind off charlie...if anything it made it worse as we went on some cracking walks & would have loved to have had it by my side! Still it won't be long now. One thing I did notice is the amount of people with dogs! When you have been out the frame for a few years you never notice! Credit to all the owners as every dog i saw was so well behaved, so nice to see
