Hi everyone, Want to make sure I have this right... When a female dog goes into season...its generally for three weeks...sometimes four.. The part when they are ready to mate to produce puppies is in the middle part for up to 10 days when the change in colour takes place in regard to discharge. Right so far? Now is my main question... Is the middle part of the three weeks, the only time they can go into pup (I am wanting to avoid this!)?
Hi, the middle part is when they are most likely to be fertile, but they can be mated and become pregnant really at anytime in that 3 weeks, so you need to keep them away from male dogs for the whole 3 weeks, if not a few days longer. There is an article on the main site about it, perhaps @snowbunny or @Boogie or @Beanwood could find the link?
Here you go: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/dog-in-heat/ A season does last on average 3 -4 weeks, although ovulation (fertile phase) can vary from bitch to bitch
