Morning All I am looking to sort Phoebe's insurance, we have 4 weeks Pet Plan that runs out next week. Does anyone have any recommendations please, not looking for cheap just the best lifetime policy. Our previous lab Rosie did not have insurance and unfortunately had Lymphoma, we spent £1000's on treatment, she was worth every penny and would do it all again, just erring on the edge pf caution this time around. Thank you
There is a lot going for Pet Plan - I think half of the members on here are insured with Pet Plan from previous discussions.. I am with Argos (platinum) and haven't had any problems for the claims I made. It may not be the best but I am stuck with them now as my dog now has a diagnosis of hip dysplasia so any other insurers would exclude her on this for sure. If you search on insurance, I am sure you will come up with lots of threads discussing it
I'm with Argos as well. I did a lot of research to get the best insurance for the best value and they seem to have all the benefits of the top insurers without the price tag. I haven't had to claim yet though so can't advise on that.
I'm with Pet Plan and have been very happy. One thing to consider is that if you stay with the firm that insured your puppy from 8 weeks, and take a life time cover, it's pretty impossible for anything to ever be excluded on the basis it was a pre-existing condition. Annoyingly, for Charlie my first 4 weeks free insurance was with the kennel club, and then I switched to pet plan and they excluded anything that I'd asked a vet about in the first month! With Betsy, I took a Pet Plan policy from 8 weeks and ignored the first 4 weeks free kennel club insurance.
I have been with Pet Plan since 1984 and very happy with them. However, a bit shocked that now Drift is 10 years old, I have to pay the first £120 (was £90) plus 20% of the bill! Never had to do that with the GSPs, I wonder if it is because he is a Labarador?
I got life time pet plan policy from 8 weeks. a friend who works in the industry advised this. I have had some problems with them with one dog who had a very complicated medical history. I still insure with the as they are considered the best of a bad bunch. They usually pay up in the end and for things that some other companies don't cover
I'm also with Pet Plan lifetime plan (carried on the free cover) but I've not had to make a claim so far so can't comment on that. My sister is with Kennel Club again with lifetime policy and she was with those with her previous dog and towards the end of his life she had to make a few claims which were sorted without issue.
I had to claim for Doug from his 6th year until he died at 14 years.they had to pay out a lot and i don't think they liked it. Freyja lived until she was 16 and I never claimed on her once.
I know we all like to moan about insurance companies - I have to say though, that PetPlan have been fantastic. They paid out for Charlie's cruciate repairs - including a fair slug towards complementary therapies like hydro and rehabilitation - didn't question that I'd gone to the most expensive surgeon I could find, plus ear and eye problems including referral to expensive specialists, with not one question asked. They just sent cheques quickly and with no fuss. I wouldn't hesitate to say that the life time Pet Plan cover I have for Charlie has been more than value for money.
If it stuff they are used to they are fine when it's unusual illnesses they can be a problem. This happened to me I'm not moaning I'm telling the truth. With insurance companies its buyer beware. I was in a horrible situation with a very ill dog who needed everything i could get for him. I was extremely ill myself and could have well done without the stress. I had to fight for stuff I was legally entitled too 3 times and had to injure strange phone calls accusations that the dog was dead. They harassed my vet lost paper work and went through my dogs medical records 6 times to try to find a way not to pay.imagine if Charlies treatment had been put in jeopardy like this that's what I had to go through with Doug for the last 9 months if his life. I would have had PTS if I hadn't been able to fund things myself.
Positive up until now would be a more acurate description. I just hope you never had to go through what me and a lot of others have had too go through. A balanced view is to hear both sides and not dismiss it ad moaning
My comment wasn't anything to do with you! It wasn't about you and whether you were moaning or not. I was just making a comment about me, not you.
I'm with Pet Plan, I can't fault them. I had the first month free from the breeder and decided to stick with them. Mabel is 2yrs old at the end of the month and I have claimed roughly £12k over the two years and they have never quibbled once.
This is interesting to me as I'd always heard in the US that pet insurance simply didn't cover much beyond yearly exams and jabs. Certainly when Brogan had both his TPLOs, the surgeon told me that I shouldn't feel bad about about not having insurance as it wouldn't have covered the cost ($5k per knee). For my three pups (2 Rotties and Mama Jodhi the pretty Pittie), I just stopped doing the mental addition after a certain amount and just joked that they were my new cars for the next 20 years - though I don't regret a single cent (and new cars are vastly over rated as someone always dings you up in the car park the first week anyway ). However, for my new pup it sounds like from the info here it's definitely worth looking into insurance!
There's another monthly payment plan which just covers routine health checks, jabs and flea/worm treatment - but not emergencies. My vet uses Vetplan. The monthly payments are much less than for the full insurance!
I am with a company called Animal Friends, Its a lifetime policy and one of the only ones we could afford right now. The others were excessive for our budget. We do have money available should the worst happen and insurance didnt cover, which wouldn't jeopardize our home or lifestlye but fingers crossed thats worse case.
