sorry, what would i do without this site ....just got my insurance details out to take to the vets on fri, we are covered with petplan, when we took the insurance out we had not got a clue what we was buying, ......we did not take the life time cover out we just took the yearly one, with the worry you all know we have had recently with jaspers leg would it be worth upgrading to a life time cover policy although i do know as this is an exsisting injury upgrading the policy would not cover his leg injury.
Re: insurance........sorry me again i pay 18 pound a month now it would be 30 a month for the life time, i really could kick my self for not taking the life time cover,......i had not got a clue when i got the insurance ???
Re: insurance........sorry me again I would upgrade anyway. Fingers crossed you will never need it, but it is good to know it is there if you do.
Re: insurance........sorry me again yes when we got the policy out we realised we had made a mistake ....we know this injury wont be covered for life,.....fingers crossed i will never ever need it, i am not good at coping with illness/injury, even the vet trimmed and filed his nail last week that is how bad i am i asked did she think they needed cutting she had a look, just cut the side ones, she said if they scratch you just file them....the look i gave her she knew to get her file out ;D

Never asking him to do that again! Luckily we do enough pavement walking that they don't get too long We have lifetime cover mainly because Ben's parents lab has elbow dysplasia and we were worried about dealing with something similar. Good luck with your decision.
Re: insurance........sorry me again For the peace of mind it would give you, I'd opt for life time cover when you renew too. Would the monthly premiums be any less if you opted for a higher excess perhaps? Also if you're buying online, try for a cash back deal through one of the cash back sites too. When we renewed our house insurance, we got £120 cash back, on a £245 policy!! Don't know if any of them do it for pet insurance, as we self insure (put something away each month just in case).
Re: insurance........sorry me again we just took the petplan that the vet gave us 4 weeks free then just renewed it from that,... will just up grade it
Re: insurance........sorry me again Lynne, I have lifetime cover for Charlie - but I don't know it's worth it. The big unknown is whether the premiums would go up if you claim - it's not clear that this wouldn't happen. It would be really interesting to her if anyone has claimed over 2 or more successive years, and what happened to the future cost of the policy. So you didn't necessarily do the wrong thing (having said that, I say again I took lifetime cover for Charlie...).
Re: insurance........sorry me again I had lifetime cover with sainsburys. my lab ruptured cruciate ligament at eight months so we saw a specialist who delayed operation till eleven months to allow for growth plates to finish growing and she was on severe restrictions until then. She went for scheduled operation at eleven months but on the pre check she didn't limp so specialist won't operate until she does. That was nearly two years ago and she is still fine with no problems and no Anti inflamatory medication required. She is a lighter framed working type and less than 25kgs. Claim cost was about £700. She also has skin allergies which are on very limited medication so claim cost was £200. Year two premium was £30 per month. This year was year three and it jumped to £70 per month with no new claims. We now self insure as highly unlikely she will incur that level of vet bills on her pre existing conditions. We took out a limited cover policy for £12 per to cover risk on any new conditions as that seems reasonable particularly as she is not inhibited by any leg problems and loves to run.
Re: insurance........sorry me again Thanks, JulieP (and Hi, I don't think we've come across each other before!) This is what I fear (but don't know) about these lifetime cover policies.... So in JulieP's example, she had a claim for £900, and the cost of her policy jumped by £40 a month... so... The extra cost of £40 a month over the lifetime of a dog (assume 10 years from claim) is £4800. It's not so sure these lifetime policies are worth it, if the premium increases when you make a claim. I don't know that's true for all policies, of course, but noticed with mine it was a possibility.
Re: insurance........sorry me again It is important to check out what each insurers offers. It is all set out in the product disclosure form that the insurer produces. I know that our Petplan premiums don't go up if we make a claim. I am very into insurance, LOL. So I'd recommend upgrading to the life cover.
Re: insurance........sorry me again i have the pet plan cover, will have a word with my vet.....i am as blind a bat ....to much small print for me .....oh my mark will be with me, young blood
Re: insurance........sorry me again Yeah - that is a really good idea, talking to your vet about it. That's what we did too. They see it all, so they can be a great source of advice about what to look for in insurance cover.
Re: insurance........sorry me again We researched the costs before we got her. Expecting to pay about £13. But that was before we knew about the life time cover options. We pay over £20 now.
Re: insurance........sorry me again Sheesh....I have no insurance... Never needed it with two previous dogs but am going to have a chat with my vet friend to get his advice.....
Re: insurance........sorry me again No Pet Insurance available or accepted in Dubai .......you just have to suck it up and pay ... similar for the humans too....no NHS so it's BUPA or Bust!think ill devise a savings plan like TM
Re: insurance........sorry me again Interesting - Australia may have better consumer protection than in the UK (which is not surprising), I think I'll research this over the hols. I definitely do not have a commitment that my premiums won't increase if I make a claim on a lifetime cover policy (petplan). But maybe I've bought the wrong thing or have paperwork missing.
Re: insurance........sorry me again No pet insurance here either, we just have a saving fund. We did used to insure but the minute I made a claim for minor surgery for Hattie they put the premium up by exactly what they paid out, so didn't see the point. Helen x
