I'm looking for insurance for my puppy now the free weeks are drawing to an end. Animal Friends seems quite competitive - just wondering if anyone had any experience with them? Thanks
No experience with them but make sure you read the small print in the policy to make sure it's what you need.
also know the waiting periods. with my insurance hip issues are not covered for 1 year and I'm better off not having any X-rays done during that period for fear of the dreaded "pre-existing condition".
I have no direct experience but was asking dog owning friends ready for setting up insurance for Jake from 1/4/16. Animal friends has been examined by money saving expert. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5353590
Other friends of friends who are vets are not convinced with Animal Friends. Recommendation seems to be Pet Plan which is more expensive but covers most things. Again, I'm a newbie dog person but this is the recommendation of experienced dig owners.
@Calbury pet insurance is a bit of a mine field and you'll see people having poor experience with any company, including Pet Plan. The main thing is to try and compare what each company is offering and read the exclusions, something a lot of people don't bother with and then complain when they get hit with an exclusion. It's a good idea to sit down and try to work out what is important to you, compare policies and then check affordability. Personally I don't think I would use Animal Friends as I didn't like their level of exclusions but then again I find Pet Plan expensive compared to other companies. Good luck
Thank you - ideally I would like a policy with a high excess, that would take care of the huge bills and leave me to take care of the smaller ones. But I can't find one anywhere! I called Pet plan and their maximum excess was still very low, making the premiums high. Does anyone knows of a policy with a high excess (around the £500 mark)? Thanks
Highest excess I can find is £169 for a lifetime policy giving £4k per policy year and that's with Pet Insurance. I don't think in general anyone offers with a high excess as you would only really claim for major bills. My first set of x-rays for Juno didn't cost much more than that last year although I think vets tend to be cheaper in France than UK.
Definitely read the Product Disclosure Statement carefully for any type of insurance cover you're considering - every word and cover to cover. That's the only way to really identify what you get and what you don't.
Hi, I am in the same boat. Looking for insurance and getting completely confused by all the small print. Have you got yours sorted yet?
Sorry it took so long for me to answer @Whiskypup - I just got sorted this week! My priority was to have the really BIG bills taken care of, but attend to the smaller ones myself. I finally opted for John Lewis's premium policy - it takes care of bills up to £12,000 per year. Initially it was around £34 per month - then I spotted an option to increase the excess to £500. This brought the premiums down to £24, which I was happy with. Good luck, I hope you find something suitable soon.
Thanks for that - we have just gone with John Lewis too with a £250 excess. Better cover than pet plan for slightly less per month.
