Re: Intermittent limping Next step is asking my vet to X-ray his right front leg as it was his left they had xrayed. The reason for his left leg being xrayed was when she was manipulating his legs/shoulder Dyson reacted when she pushed back his left shoulder...will let you know & thank you for the advise.
Re: Intermittent limping Oh if there is something really wrong ,the X-rays will find it and you can then move forward to get him the right treatment.i hope it's nothing too serious though,do let us know how you get on x
Re: Intermittent limping We had a very similar problem. Milly started limping at 6 months. We did two separate lots of rest and anti inflammatory then had x rays done. Vet couldn't see anything on the x ray so we did an extended rest with more anti inflammatory. The limp would go away but return after exercise resumed. I really wanted to know what was going on so ended up being referred to a specialist vet who could see the elbow Displasia on the original x rays. So sometimes a second opinion can be useful from a vet that is well used to seeing the smaller changes in the joints. He also said sometimes it doesn't show on the X-ray as the cartilage isn't as easy to see? I'm not in anyway saying this is what your dog has. Just what our experience was. Milly has since had surgery and has recovered very well. No limping at all
Re: Intermittent limping What you are saying and describing about Milly is exactly what's going on with Dyson. Vet said x Ray was clear on both shoulder & elbow joint but it's only the left front leg that has been done. Definately going to get second opinion. What you said gives me hope
Re: Intermittent limping I hope everything works out for you and your boy. My dog ruptured his cruciate at 8 months (not something that would show up on x-rays) and it was such a shock and a bit of an awful time. But, it's all over now. He is as fit as a fiddle and has hoolies for England again. I hope it's nothing serious. But even if it is, most things can be fixed... I do think going straight to a specialist is the thing to do, no messing about - the sooner things are diagnosed the better, time is often important. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised only one leg was x-rayed. When Charlie had x-rays to try to find out what was wrong, every joint was done.
Re: Intermittent limping All X-rays done and all are clear...which should be a relief but unfortunately the boy is still limping. We have been referred to a specialist in Stirling and hopefully it won't take too long. Just want to get to the bottom of it for Dysons sake :'(
Re: Intermittent limping Good news about the x-rays though. I know, getting to the bottom of a problem so you know what you are dealing with is the thing. Hope you get some answers soon.
Re: Intermittent limping It's hard having all the unknowns... But great that the X-rays look good. Will you be able to take the X-rays to the specialist too?
Re: Intermittent limping I am not sure but I assume my own vet would forward Dysons x-rays to the specialist...I will ask.
Re: Intermittent limping Our specialist took new x-rays but our situation may have been a little different (in that we were leaving Lilly for x-rays and possible knee surgery following our vet assessment but turned out knee was fine and it was actually her hips). I'm guessing its Broadley's you have been referred to? Good reputation as far as I have heard. We went to John Ferguson's practice in St Monans who have the rep for being best in Scotland, but they are in our neighbourhood so logical choice - they were excellent in my opinion, but my experience is limited. I do hope you get some answers.
Re: Intermittent limping Quick update on Dyson Got appointment with specialist on the 23rd Feb...first available appointment, so I am trying not to worry too much :'( The strange thing is that the limp doesn't seem to be as noticeable. Every now and then it rears its ugly head and other times its as if it has gone. The sooner we get some answers the better...I just want my boy to be ok.
Re: Intermittent limping It's great that you're seeing the specialist. I'm sure that will help to move things along so that you get some answers. Specialists spend all their time seeing things exactly like this. I know it must be really stressful, but you are on the right track to getting to the bottom of it all.
Re: Intermittent limping Glad you are seeing a specialist. Hopefully you get some answers. These dogs are such a worry some times. Milly did the same thing. I would think the limp had gone then all of a sudden she would be limping again for no aparent reason at all. Keep us updated and try not to worry too much. Though I know that's almost impossible.
Re: Intermittent limping After surgery it was two months of gradually increasing lead walks only. So she was in a play pen for that time. She was only allowed to go to the bathroom for the first week. Then 5 minute walk for the next week then 10 and so on. Then it started with 5 minute increments of off lead. It was quite hard to occupy her for that time but worth the effort. She hasn't limped much since.
Re: Intermittent limping Dysons trip to the specialist tomorrow. Car is packed, extra bedding, water, his favourite toy (it's 120miles round trip) I'm a nervous wreck and my big bundle of fluff is snoring his head off . Hopefully this time tomorrow I'll have some answers and whatever the outcome we'll get thru it. That's what best friends do. Don't think I will get much sleep unlike my boy !!
Re: Intermittent limping Good luck for tomorrow, we will be thinking about you and Dyson and yes whatever the outcome you will deal with it for your boy!! Try and get some sleep though. xxx
Re: Intermittent limping Best of luck, paws crossed here.
whatever the outcome we'll get thru it.
You will.
