Interpreting litter COI for a pet owner

    Hello! I’m new to the site, although I owned a black lab female back in the mid-80s. (Yes, I’m in my upper 60’s)...

    I’m trying to help my sister find a good quality (emphasis on health, temperament, and type- in that order) English black lab for a pet. She lives in AZ, and is not interested in breeding or any dog sports. I know about the importance of a low Coefficient of Inbreeding to breeders as a factor in finding appropriate mates for the dogs they breed. The lower the COI, the lower the chance a puppy from the litter would inherit a genetic health issue. However, is the COI of a litter useful to a prospective pet owner? A pupp
