I have a female black labra (5 yes old and she is on heat). She has never mated before, is she too old now to mate and have a litter? Or too risky now?

Hi Def, welcome to the forum!

I think a lot of people would regard 5 years old as being too old for a first litter in most cases. You can ready more about making the decision to breed from a female Lab in this article on our main site.

An even more significant concern now that she's already in heat is whether she has been health tested in the past year. Finding a suitable, health-tested sire at such short notice is also extremely unlikely.

Whilst it's no longer wise to let her become a mum, I'm sure she'd enjoy being a fun auntie if you get a puppy from another dam in future :)
