Hi all, I have been lurking a while, and after a lot of research, my family chose to get a beautiful male. We love him already, but he has shown the ability to be quite adventurous which has me a bit worried. I am leaning towards getting one of these little devices that isn't as expensive as some of the older ones that I have seen http://newsdailynow.com/2015/11/16/pet-tracking/ . I feel like something like this would make my family less paranoid. That little device is about the size of a small coin so it doesn't seem like it should bother him much. As a pet owner, I can't see why it wouldn't be a good idea to use one. Does anyone think wearing one could cause any problems? -thanks in advance for your response!
Hi and welcome to the forum. I wouldn't say it's necessarily a bad idea, but I would be rather concerned if I was thinking it was necessary and be doing a lot of training to keep your dog close. How far does he wander? Is this just on walks, or can he go exploring when you're at home? It's pretty easy to encourage your dog to stay close to you and not go wandering; make it a rewarding thing to be close to you with treats and toys. Do lots of about-turn walks where, as soon as his attention is no longer on you, you turn and walk the other way until he catches up with you. There are lots of other ideas on this thread: http://thelabradorforum.com/forum/n...ining/260292-keeping-your-dog-close-on-a-walk
Your love time and training is what a puppy needs. When they are little they stick to you like glue. So unless you are planning to paracute him behind enemy lines I wouldn't waste my cash and would invest it in a good training class. good luck puppies are the most fun ever
I was paranoid about where Juno was when first off lead on walks. My trainer suggest a little bell on the collar. She still has it in her collar as I find it a useful tool to kniw when she's coming to catch up. If the concern is in the garden you need to make sure it is secure. Puppies can wriggle through very small gaps.
