After Fridays news on probable Elbow Dysplasia for Juno, life seems to be being harsh with her. She has had runny poo off and on since Sunday evening which we put down to eating duck poo on our walk at the lake. She's only poo'd when she normally would, just been soft to runny. Then this morning got up to find that she had been sick during the night several times in her crate. While cleaning up the mess in and around her crate she was sick in her soft cosy bed in the living room. Washing machine is now working overtime to get all the bedding washed for her and radiators are draped with covers, blankets etc. As she showed some aversion to go into her crate after I'd cleaned it up (not really surprising considering the volume of vomit) she's now dozing on the mattress from her crate, which seems to have survived the worst of the assault with a sponge down, snuggled up on an IKEA fleece I had tucked away in a wardrobe with her head resting on the sole surviving blanket from her crate. Strangely enough her poo this morning was completely normal......
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Poor Juno. I hope she's feeling better and got rid of whatever it was upsetting her. :-\
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Oh dear. I hope she now feels much better after her snuggle on the fleece.
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Oh no,she sounds really upset by whatever it is she ate, hope she's been ok the rest of today x
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Oh dear, seems to be a bit of a bug going round as my girl was horribly sick on Sunday night and Rosie's Pongo a few days before that. Hope she feels better soon!!
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Thought we were doing quite well, all bedding washed and dry or drying. Juno had a small amount of Quaker oats and scrambled egg at lunch time and seemed much improved then just as were going out the door for a short walk she was sick again over the doormat but was keen to go for a walk. After grabbing some poo and gobbling it on our short walk she's managed to be sick again over some of the bedding which is now back in the washing machine. The positive side of the last vomit while I was clearing up the door step is that at least she brought up the poo she'd eaten! Any suggestions as to what to give her for a light meal which she may keep down as I don't want to give her the normal kibble? When would you consider going to the vet? Concerned as she is booked for her scan on Friday afternoon and needs an anaesthetic for it to be performed.
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Is she bright and well otherwise? Drinking ok? Personally when my dog is sick I just give her normal food, but that's just me. I know a lot of people like to give chicken and rice etc as something very plain but from experience and working in rescue homes where we were not able to do this then her normal kibble can be ok too. If you're able to pop out to a shop you could pick up a couple of tins of chappie meat (either flavour is fine) and feed that for 24 hours - another thing we used to use at the dogs home which worked just as well as specialist sensitive meat when the dogs tummies were playing up. Edited to add: As for the scan on Friday, I think as long as she hasn't vomited or had diarrhoea for 24 hours they are usually ok to continue, but if she's still unwell tomorrow I would give the vet a call to check what they want to do.
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Thanks Penny, Juno seems to be quite bright one minute then go quiet again - she's never a noisy, in your face dog but she's quieter than normal but was happy when out for her walk, despite being sick as we went out. Unfortunately we're in rural France so can't easily just pop out to the shops for something for her. I was considering just water for the rest of the day unless she really asks for her dinner then try a small portion of her kibble in the morning and see how she goes. Pretty much working on what I would if it was me - purge and then start introducing small portions of food.....
Re: It never rains but it pours...... That sounds like a good idea to me. Just give her water, then maybe a very light meal of rice, boiled in water with a piece of stock cube. Then slowly reintroduce her regular food.
Re: It never rains but it pours...... Hi Rosemary, Sorry to hear about Juno's problems, - just a thought, did Juno have a general anaesthetic at the vets last week? It's only that I noticed Monty has had an upset digestive system since his trip to the vets and a G.A - he did a poo on the kitchen floor the evening he came home (he never does this, hasn't since 5 months, then a few runny poos - so assume it was something to do with being at the vets - then a couple of days later was sick in his cage - again a pretty rare occurrence too. Just wondering if there's any pattern this with generals? In terms of food I'm inclined to agree with Lauren and stick with kibble (half size portions I normally go for ) and maybe a few pieces of cooked pasta if available - rice doesn't seem to suit Monty. Keep us updated with the scan results on Friday - it's the day that we also hear from an orthopaedic specialist about any chance of operating on Monty's elbows but also the day he starts hydro sessions
