Sometimes, it's nice to look back and see how far you've come. We still have plenty of challenges, but we're just back home from a lovely walk. We went to pick up our ridiculous oops-double-ordered lot of dog food from Spain, and took the dogs with us so we could have a walk down there. We found a nice path by the river Segre and strolled along there. It's a fairly famous path - El Cami de Sant Jaume, which is 490km in total and a pilgrims' route, dating back to 814AD. Man, a few months ago, we would have had a nightmare! The path turned out to be very busy with walkers, runners, cyclists and other dogs. All of which could have been really problematic previously. This time, though, they were good as gold, except for one small digression on Willow's part, where she jumped up at a lady - oops! But, that one time aside, they didn't react at all to the cyclists, we either sat them or walked them to heel as joggers passed and they had a bit of playtime with other dogs, but always recalled from them perfectly. Shadow did tell one dog off, because she just kept on following him with her nose stuck up his bum, and he'd had enough after several minutes of that - fair enough - but it was a non-event other than a bit of a growl. We met a working Rottweiler, which is something I've never come across before. She was tiny! Way shorter than my two, and they're not tall by Labrador standards. I mistook her for a puppy so asked how many months she was, but it turns out she was two years of age. I never even knew there was such a thing as a working Rottie. You learn something new every day. Willow, as usual, wasn't interested at all in any of the other dogs. She's far too much of a duchess to mingle with the riff-raff Anyway, I was pleased as punch with them, especially walking off-lead and to heel with joggers around and, whilst other things can be tough, it's nice to reflect on the changes that are being made all the time, that would be so easy to forget.
Well done Fiona, you have put an awful lot of work into your two and you deserve to be proud of them - and yourself - so go give yourself a big pat on the back! Lovely post!
Well done! Especially with the challenge of 2 young dogs. It is very easy to become dispirited at times, with a walk not going to plan, and forgetting the huge achievements we have made in training. I am finding it very interesting looking back on posts made a year ago...now that Benson is fast approaching 2.
Ah, the magical, mystical two years of age, when Labradors find their sense and finally become adults. That's right, isn't it?
Dexter didn't get the memo! Sounds like a lovely day out ....it is so satisfying when you see progress and its training driven. You get out what you out in and you have really put your time in with you 2 Fiona... Hope the drive back wasn't too much of a squash with your over order? X
Heh, the boot was rather full, and now our bedroom is! I'll be sorting it out today. 100 cow ears is a LOT! 200... that's just ridiculous!
