It's Way Too Early For This Kind of Walking

One of the special treats of a cold, snowy climate is walking on top of the crust on the snow. After a couple of thaw/freeze cycles even I can walk, sometimes run, on the crust. Depending on the winter I might be two or in places even three feet over the underbrush. It's such a treat to go where ever we want, off the trail through the bush but not trample tender plants or have to trip and climb over branches. Or need the snowshoes or skiis. But we usually don't get those kind of conditions till March, hopefully late March or maybe even April. This morning I could walk on the crust. Early February. Way too early. :( Hope winter isn't over yet. Darn global warming.

We've had daffodils out since late December and my fruit trees are beginning to come to life

There is serious concern here that fruit trees will bud out and then we'll get another freeze cycle that will kill the buds off, ruining orchards and vinyards. This did happen a couple of years ago.

I have some Spring flowering shrubs (can't spell the name o_O) and they flowered before Christmas. It's a real muddle up. I saw a bumble bee out on our walk the other day.

    Yes, very confused weather.
It is 12 or 15 degrees for a couple of days then back to the 2-5 degrees (Celsius, my brain don't do farenheit)

It's just wet here. Oh, and sometimes it's windy too. It's often very wet. And sometimes very windy. Hedgehogs are about too.

I don't think we've really had winter yet here! It's due to start snowing again tonight, though, and it has been a bit colder the last couple of days. It's just weird. I blame El Niño.

We've had strange weather here too. Summer started really early this year with the heat coming as early as October. We even had a couple of days in the 40s in November which is unheard of. However, other than a couple of hot days, January has been relatively cool with a lot of days in the low to mid 20s.

Now I'm wondering if that's it and summer's over or if the heat will come back with a vengeance in March.

Well I'm enjoying the break from our usual winter. It's been much milder than we usually get, and although we've had snow it hasn't been too much. Much nicer for walks! Bring on El Niño I say!!
