Re: Jakes trail of destruction You could maybe get one of those upside down trees to hang from the ceiling? Or my personal favorite, A stunning Argos twig tree currently being advertised in their gift calalogue Argos also sell baby gates........
Re: Jakes trail of destruction Yeah, I did think that. The silver bauble on the end wouldn't last long... Fun, though! For the dog that is.
Re: Jakes trail of destruction Discussed this with OH tonight - we've decide the only practical way for us is to gate off the Christmas tree! We always have a big one, in a sort of gap in the wall in the dining room. We're going to put his old puppy pen across the gap! Maybe I can string fairy lights across it or something.... : : :
Re: Jakes trail of destruction Ha ha gotta love the upside down one... But why do they sell such a thing?? This is definitely going to take some thought....I think I'll try putting it up and leave it undecorated for a few days and see how that goes first....
Re: Jakes trail of destruction I can gloat on this one ;D, Hattie and Charlie just have a sniff of the tree whilst we are decorating it and that's it, remains fully intact.
Re: Jakes trail of destruction I had a twiggy one like that last year,I made Chris's best friend Jonathan lug it all the way over from John Lewis in York ;D...price you pay for free board and lodging ;D anyway I put it up and all the decorations on Dec 1st ...and the boys came home from playing golf and NOBODY noticed I'd put anything up, .....feedback was that having Xmas decorations the same colour as your usual soft furnishings and colour scheme does not make an impact) so lots of red being incorporated this year......mind you Dexter is in the equation now so maybe last years colour scheme might be more sensible!
Re: Jakes trail of destruction Twiggy WAS a bit underwhelming if I'm honest ..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/97066992@N03/10923559146/ Got an 8 ft beauty this year......AND red baubles! ;D
Re: Jakes trail of destruction *Ooops!* I must admit, I quite like the lit up twig look, but not really for Christmas.....I like the full on real live tree with lots of contrasting red and gold and twinkly lights.....and pine needles in your feet for the next 11 months........ There is nothing quite like the smell of a real live tree, but last year we bought a large artificial one as the cost of a decent tree was around £30-£35 which was just getting ridiculous. So......its plastic for us for a few years. You might be surprised though....Lilly hasn't previously shown much interest in our trees, real or otherwise. I believe CATS have a bit more of a reputation though
Re: Jakes trail of destruction Ah Jacqui you are right, nothing, nothing beats a real one.....blimey down Liverpool and Harrogate way they are £10 a foot! And it would make your wallet bleed if I told you how much the imported ones are in Dubai....nothing decent height wise for less than £100 and they never last .....my sister puts herself through it every year though and MOANS about it every year ;D.....the only thing with the artificial pine needle ones is they satisfy my minor OCD tendencies to have a uniform shape ;D I'll still put Twiggy up this year but more as a Christmas 'ornament' than the definitive tree....good job Dexter has never marked anywhere in the house or garden.....that could be yet another consideration on the whole tree conundrum. I know mine will probably be up first .....Dec 1st,evening of mulled wine and Christmas Decorations....but whose do you think will be 'down' first ?with the help of our curious canine friends ;D....
Re: Jakes trail of destruction 1st December? Jeez - must be a wreck at the end of the 12th night (the tree...not you ;D )
Re: Jakes trail of destruction I always hanker after a twiggy white elegant thing - it always has to be a real one, and a monster one, in our house, with the top of the tree bent over on the ceiling. We look like a giles cartoon! And we have high ceilings! OH insists. He always insists it must be multi-coloured too. : : : Must get it ordered...
Re: Jakes trail of destruction Well if any of you are in Canada over the next couple weeks I could offer you the whole "go out in the bush and cur your own Christmas tree down" experience....not that I do it but have plenty of friends who do. I have an artificial one...due to the needle issue...
Re: Jakes trail of destruction We go multi coloured too and I always post a picture on Facebook to irritate my friend who's an architect and has beautiful and terribly tasteful trees 8)
Re: Jakes trail of destruction
We go multi coloured too and I always post a picture on Facebook to irritate my friend who's an architect and has beautiful and terribly tasteful trees 8)
I do try and limit it to two colours....even if those are gold and purple! : but then I have a glass of wine, and end up thinking Christmas is about being cheerful, and none of my "being smart" ambitions are ever realised anyway... ;D ;D ;D
Re: Jakes trail of destruction Am I the only one who has no hand in the tree decorating? In our house it is the job of the OH - I am not allowed to interfere : I get to do all the rest of the house and the small tree in our back sun-room (well actually, Sophie's job that one), but the front room is his territory as far as the tree goes. I would LOVE to have a decluttered minimalist house.......just maybe not at christmas ;D
Re: Jakes trail of destruction In our house tree decorating is a family affair, and I still have all the ornaments the kids made as they grew up.....not very decorator-like, but I love my haphazard, full-of-memories tree! Methinks a "Let's see your Christmas tree" thread is a-brewin'....
