My mum's dog, Jemma, has gone to the rainbow bridge after suffering from heart failure for a few months. Until the end, she was happy as Larry when she was out on walks, but found it increasingly hard to breathe when she was laying down at home. Jem didn't have the easiest start to life; she was rescued from a scrap yard where she had been chained her entire life, along with a few other dogs. When she was rescued, it was alongside a litter of puppies she'd had with her own brother. Not all survived, but the ones that did were also later rescued. With my parents, she found a comfortable sofa to spend her days sleeping on and daily walks to enjoy the Surrey countryside. She was never much of a social butterfly, and kept herself to herself, never having a cross word with anyone. Last year, she had a horrible incident where she was viciously attacked by another dog, leaving her needing hospitalisation and many stitches, but it didn't change her demeanour towards other dogs at all. She wasn't the most demonstrative of dogs; her difficult start meant she didn't know how to play, but she was certainly content with her lot. She had seven years knowing she was safe and loved, and that's the biggest gift anyone can give to a dog. RIP Jem
So sorry she's gone. She was a lucky dog in the end and was loved. Being well looked after and loved is all that matters not the bad stuff. So glad she had a happy life with your mum and dad
It certainly sounds as if Jemma had a most wonderful life after such a hideous start. She knew happiness, safety and love - what more could a dog ask for? Rest in peace now Jemma.
Oh, very sorry to hear this, especially for your parents. It sounds like she had a great life once it started with her real family and was a real character who will be remembered for a very long time.
So glad she got a second chance to enjoy a safe and mostly carefree 7 years. Sounds similar to a certain senorita I’ve been following. Big hugs to your mom and dad...it’s always so hard to say goodbye. RIP Jemma.
So sad for your Mother, I hope she finds some comfort in giving Jemma 7 years of happiness after a very bad start.
I can't remember hearing Jemma's story before. Dogs cope with a lot and give back undemanding love in bucketloads. Hugs to you all.
Your parents turned Jemma’s life around so that she became a well-loved pet and had seven happy years.
I'm so very sorry you have lost Jemma. She knew warmth, good food, walks and snuggles on the sofa, but above all she experienced unconditional love for what was the best part of her life. Thinking of you all xxx
