Yep. It needs surgery and I'm in denial. It flares up and I think I'll definitely get the appointment booked, and then it subsides again and I pretend it's fixed.

:( My OH has exactly the same, and is also in denial. I am badgering him to take a deep breath and get the surgery booked - once it’s done it’s done! But easy for me to say :(

No we didn't use it in busy places as we live in the countryside and I'm not sure I would for safety reasons. We don't tend to meet many dogs and if we did we wound the lead up to keep Charlie close. Sorry I can't help on those points.

Sorry you have wisdom teeth issues it's just so painful and I totally sympathise :( Many years ago in my early twenties all of mine were impacted and infected I had to go to Hospital to have them removed under anesthetic but I started to come round only to find the Dentists knee on my chest so he had to snap one off so I still have the root. I drank soup through a straw for over a week and had a knee shaped bruise too . Please don't let them get that bad, be brave and have them sorted :( x

I used a long line for a while, but never anywhere really busy. You want to react before they try to run off, so I had to watch him carefully, usually he stops, stares and freezes before running off so I would have enough warning to pick up the line. The other option is to hold the line all the time and just reel it in and out as you need, but this isn't training off lead behaviours.

For meeting other dogs, I unclip the long line and then clip it back on again afterwards.

Oh, toothache is horrible. I’d go and get it taken out -you might be lucky and have it come out easily as mine did.

    bootcamp day 3

My tooth got a lot worse overnight and it was straight to the dentist this morning for antibiotics and another referral to the surgeon. I know it's going to be a nasty extraction as the tooth is growing horizontally and there's not much space. But you are all right that it's better to get it over with. Another thing to thank the forum for (if I actually do it :D)

As I'm not feeling great, Jess has had to make do with a little bit of play and training in the garden. We played whipit, and some retrieving where I threw one toy and lured her back with another - I.e she brought back the ball and we played tug, she brought back the tug toy and I threw the ball. It was interesting that she brought everything back immediately except the dummy - she wanted to play keep away with it presumably because it's higher value to her. But a hot sausage sorted that out, and she then repeated a dummy retrieve 3 times in exchange for sausages. then I hid some toys in bushes and got her to find them.

So we had fun, to my surprise. It will be interesting to see if she is tired now as it was a lot less exercise than our walks but much more high energy.

Now we have visitors for the weekend so doggie bootcamp will resume in earnest next week.

    bootcamp day 6

We rented a training field today, which didn't work out as I'd hoped. It was further away and smaller than I'd expected, and there was shooting going on nearby. As it was a safely enclosed space i tried to work with that and just let Jess stay off lead and react as she wanted to. She bolted the first time she heard shots (not very far though - a few metres) but I let her choose what she wanted to do and after a few minutes she came back into me and we started playing games and she was accepting treats and wagging her tail but still wary and on edge. The second time she was obviously unhappy - her tail went down and she backed away. Again, she recovered reasonably quickly but remained on edge. The third time, I was sitting down on the ground when the shots went off and she sat down a few feet away from me. I tried just averting my eyes, not pressuring her and she came a bit closer. I moved in closer to her and then cuddled her for a bit. She wasn't shivering, but she was on high alert, scanning to see if there was anything frightening on the horizon. Then I took her home. There were only about 12 shots in total over about 35 minutes. But it was a miserable little dog that went back into the car. And a pretty miserable owner too. :(

Oh dear sorry to read this, being miserable is no good at all, no good for learning. Was it a surprise that there was shooting nearby?
Is there anymore sign of her coming in season?

@blackandwhitedog That's a real shame. I'm sorry you were both so miserable :( I think I would have called it a day after the first shot and Jess's reaction. Hope you are both feeling better today. xx

Aah sorry about this. Always such a disappointment when you have organised something that you think will be nice for your dog and you and the opposite happens. :(
