Got your emails, and they will be very helpful! The pups are now 12 days old, still no eyes open lol! One of the pups (little flash) is a bit smaller than the others but they are all gaining weight of about 1oz per day. Little flash is getting prority at the moment. Whenever Jet goes into her whelping box to feed them, we always ensure little flash is on first. Jet still doing well, but doesnt want to spend as much time in her whelping box and more time with us lol, but she still goes back to the pups to clean and stimulate them and for their feed. Sometimes if we know they havent had a feed for a while, we climb into the box with her and have a bit of a cuddle till she lies down, and then its like a shoal of piranhas awaken as they all shuffle over to her lol
Ah Flash should catch up with you looking out for him so well.I met a litter of rescue puppies yesterday that were 3 weeks old.....those guys were wriggly .....and busy! You are going to be kept on your toes when those eyes open! X
I just love the way you are caring for Jet and her pups. I smile at the thought of you getting in the whelping box with her to encourage her and the attack of little piranhas I was chatting to a breeder of dachshunds yesterday, she refused to sell a puppy to a potential customer because she didn't like their attitude. The woman didn't pet the pup or give it enough eye contact so the breeder wasn't sure the pup was going to a loving home.
You're doing great job so little flash will catch up very quickly with his siblings I also had a "runt" - little girl that was born the last. By the time they were leaving us she was one of the biggest girls
So the little ones are now 2 weeks old. Just yesterday they have begun to open their eyes a little and are starting to walk. Even little blue is joining in with his brothers and sisters. Jet isnt as keen to be with the pups now, but she does nip in and out of her whelping box to feed them now and again. I have a few more photos but will get some more closeups once their eyes are well and truly open. Enjoy!
Gosh they are looking good, so lovely and shiny! How is Jet doing, apart from starting to leave the pups for longer? Is she happy to go back out for walks yet? Has she put weight back on again? Etc.
So gorgeous . I'm glad pups are doing well . Please do keep taking photos! I love the way they snuggle up to each other
Lovely pictures I like pups at this age, they are changing so quickly & slowly start to show their temperament When are you planning to start weaning them?
Only this morning have they started to become more active, bumping into each other etc. They are all on their feet now and walking about like little drunk puppies lol. All their eyes are almost open, now just waiting for them to clear and focus!
Jets doing great and im so happy she has taken it all in her stride. Any discharge has completely cleared up now. She actually got into the whelping box tonight on her own after i cleaned it all up and has them all feeding now. They are still putting on weight and all are over 2lbs now. Jets loving her walks and apart from being a little stiff, she is enjoying retrieving her favourite ball again, although im still not pushing her too hard. She has put a little weight back on and is looking good, just casting at the moment lol. Still on the puppy food, but once the puppies begin weaning ill get her back onto her own food.
Im hoping to begin weaning next week (3 weeks old), i know i have to worm them also. Not sure which to do first, begin weaning them and then worm them a couple of days later, or get them wormed before i begin weaning? The stud owner says he always commences with ambrosia creamed rice, he says the will lap away at it and will also begin to get used to the little grains of rice in it. Ive also ordered Royal Canin puppy milk to begin to put into their puppy food when i start it.
Thanks Beata, must ring him to find out if i should start weaning first or worm first or just do both at the same time?
I know nothing about puppies so can't help with you worming/weaning timing question, just to say the puppies look great,I love a good puppy pile!Glad Jet is regaining her condition too, she's been a good Mum x
Im back to work all day and had planned to come home at lunch time to clean up puppies and mum etc, but my wife has been signed off for 4 weeks sick so shes got the job of puppy sitting, but shes loving it lol
Sorry your wife is off sick but it's probably a good thing for Jet and the pups. As I understand it, once they are mobile you really can't leave them alone for long as they can get up to terrible mischief, so you may need to take some vacation for the last couple of weeks before they go to their new homes. Have you decided which is "your" pup yet? We're all hoping it's Little Flash, of course...
I was worming before weaning (3 days of Panacure 10%) & then at 3 weeks I started weaning. I soaked puppy kibble in puppy formula & then blended it. Everyday I was blending & soaking food less & less and when they were about 5 weeks old they were eating normal kibble. I also let them try a bit of minced beef, minced lamb, some pineapple, carrots, boiled egg etc.
