Anyone have any tips stop him doing this? X
When someone is approaching that you want to stop and talk to, stand on his lead. It's working a treat with mine. You need a lead that's long enough to reach the floor and still allow you to hold onto it. I have a double-ended Halti lead, so I just drop one half of the loop and stand on that, short enough so the dog can't jump up at all, but without pulling down on their neck. Eventually, they learn that there's no point in trying to jump up, it just doesn't work. You can also try attention-getting noises to make him look at you as you walk past people, streaming treats if needs be. And I use a "look at that" technique with my two, too, for strangers I don't want to stop and talk to; as soon as they look, I click, which makes them look to me for their treat. Over time, you delay the click and you find your dog naturally starts looking at the stranger and then straight at you for their treat - at which point, you click when they look at you instead of at the person. In time, whenever they see a stranger, they'll associate it with a treat coming from you and so their attention will be on you rather than the other person.
