well at 6 months we seemed to have cracked a lot of things with all the good advice on here but am struggling to get Mole (6mo) to stop jumping up when people arrive. He calms down once they are here but it fairly relentless for the first 5 minutes and he's getting big! Would love to try and nip this in the bud! He doesn't do it on a walk when we meet people only when people come to the house. We try turning around and getting him to sit, which he will do but then will jump up again! I tell people not to walk into the kitchen until he's stopped jumping up on the gate to greet them (and me) but once you are in the room it starts in earnest! Any of your top tips would be great! Thanks so much, Sam and Mole
You could put Mole in a closed area maybe behind a baby gate or in a pen until he calms down, don't let anyone interact with him then bring him out maybe on lead so that you can control him. My dogs are 8 and 5 and I put them in the untility room to calm down because it's usually the humans fault not the dogs You could clicker train all paws on the floor which pups and older dogs really enjoy. There's lots of clicker training information on the forum. x
I would go with the clicker training as Helen says. You might need some stooges to help visit you. Must admit we haven't had a huge problem in the house it's out and about if she knows another dog walkers who carries treats
Good advice from Helen. I've never had much of a problem with Juno jumping up but she has to have her bum planted on the floor or she isn't greeted. The hardest part is getting all visitors, and family, to follow the rules as consistency is wins in the end. If Mole starts getting excited in the room with visitors do a short time out and the bring him back. The other alternative us on lead so you can limit his range of movement until he settles.
Great advice given already, I used to get people to ignore Dexter or go back out of the room. Oh and stop the visitors speaking, the hardest part was training some of the visitors
