Ah, poor Monty, he just doesn't catch a break with his health. After a suspected tummy bug last week which appeared to clear up then reappeared with a vengeance over the bank holiday, including a squirty bum this time, I took Monts back to the vets today- they are keeping him for the day for blood tests, stomach x rays and possible barium xray. House seems quiet - I managed to eat a bacon sandwich all to myself. Hoping it's nothing too bad - have visions of all sorts of detritus in his stomach...
Poor Monty , I hope the Vets can get to the root of it for him , seems a sensible approach to keep him and do the works x
Hope he's ok! Sounds like the vets are going to be very thorough. It's really weird to eat stuff without a dog imploring you for bits....
Annoyingly he perked up a bit when we got to the vet - I suppose a slight stress / excitement reaction, plus the staff there are all so friendly to him he can't help but wag his whole body at them. But no, not normal to have a lab who doesn't want to go for a walk, eat much or steal your food
Oh lord, what a worry. Let us know how he gets on. Will he be back with you this evening? Hope you saved him a bit of your bacon butty...
Vets have just called, all tests and xrays clear, so good news... but what on earth is wrong with him then? A sudden food allergy, maybe? Sorry, those aren't actual questions, just my thoughts wandering.
Could he have eaten something when out walking ? I have to watch Sam like a hawk for snaffling stuff , resulting in an upset tummy , typical Lab ! Maybe you could try him on a hypoallergenic food , one formulated for sensitive tums, see if it makes any difference ?
Mmm, I will discuss the food - he's generally had the constitution of an ox - can eat all sorts of rubbish and apart from the very occasional loose poo, he's never had an issue - he had a terrible prolonged bout of giardia as a pup, and I always thought that finally getting over it might have toughened up his digestion. He's currently on Royal Canin satiety prescription food, which lets him eat more for less, with his ED/HD he's on a constant diet. So yes, might consider an alternative. This probably isn't a plus point given the circumstances but he weighed in at 27.3 kilos this morning - he hasn't been that weight since he was just 12 months old, when he was still growing.
Just for added sympathy, his poorly puppy photos which I don't think I ever posted here, back in the days when the lawn was green and the carpet was cream - he seems all head and tiny body in some of them:
Love those puppy photos - what a little cutie . Good news on the results of tests although it doesn't really help in getting to the bottom of the current tummy problem. How long as he been on the prescription diet? Just thinking out loud really but when we were on a prescription diet for ED I found over a period of months that coat condition wasn't so good and had a few funny tummies occurring although no really major upset. I switched diet and no more tummy upset ...... so may be worth a chat with the vet. We also put on weight over the winter and got a lecture from the vet so have been on diminished rations
