Hello Everyone, Just a short note to introduce myself, in May we lost our twelve year old rescue yellow Lab, we'd had her since she was five and nursed her through two serious illnesses so it was a terrific blow, then in July our beloved Goldie joined her 'over the Rainbow Bridge' so a double blow. The house is so empty without a companion so after lots of discussion we decided to get in touch with the Labrador Rescue Trust and last Wednesday we were asked if we could foster a two year old dog with a view to formally adopting him if everything turned out well. He is lovely, but very lively, partially trained (we haven't yet found out the commands that he recognises!), loves shoes and anything else that he can pick up (yesterday he presented my library book to a visitor), but he does give and drop on demand and so far hasn't trashed anything, the empty place in our hearts is slowly being filled. Looking forward to meeting new friends through this forum.
Re: Just introducing myself Hello there! That's a tough blow to lose two so close together. Sorry to hear that. How lovely that you're able to help another furry friend. I'm sure you'll hit on the right command soon. I have Harry a springer pointer cross, and Charlie a lab cocker cross (so I can empathise with the 'very lively' part!). These are wonderful forums for chat and advice. x
Re: Just introducing myself A very warm welcome from us, Hattie 7 years and our rescue boy Charlie 4 a Labrador x Pointer so 'lively' is his middle name So sorry you lost your beloved dogs and I hope your rescue boy helps to fill the emptyness. I look forward to hearing all about him. Enjoy this lovely friendly forum xx Helen xx
Re: Just introducing myself Welcome from Idaho and Miss Bella who is now 14 weeks...lively is part of the fun! We too lost 2 beloved furry friends in one year - which brought Bella into our lives. Best of luck with your new pal...I'm sure there will be much fun to share in the coming weeks!
Re: Just introducing myself Hello and welcome from me and my two - Riley three and a half lab and Obi 20 week Clumber Spaniel. Do share some photos if you have them, of all your dogs. We love to hear about the special ones no longer with us as well as the challenging darlings we still have ! There's some guidance in the technical section about photos or shout if you need help ;D
Re: Just introducing myself Hi and welcome from me and Harley (16 month old red fox lab) Harley is my first ever dog. Would live to see some photos of all your dogs
Re: Just introducing myself Hi there, and welcome from me and Simba, a two and a half year old LabX we inherited when he was around one...partially trained would describe him as well, so I know what you are saying!
Re: Just introducing myself Hi and welcome! I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved dogs... No doubt it was a bit of a shock to the system to introduce a young whirlwind into your lives He won't be a part-trained whirlwind forever though (hold onto that thought while retrieving your footwear for the thousandth time ). I'm sure he's a beautiful boy. Hope you enjoy the forum.
Re: Just introducing myself Welcome from South Wales where we live under the benign tyranny of a 2 year old Yellow Lab called Holly. I'm sure that your new dog (what's his name?) will start to settle down soon.
Re: Just introducing myself Welcome from me and Lilly, a 4 year old black girl. We live in Scotland, kind of near St Andrews. I would love to hear more about your rescue, and we all love photos, so hope you can figure that out. Hope you enjoy the forum. jac
Re: Just introducing myself Thank you all for the wonderful welcome, when everything is finalised I will post photos and probably a big list of HELP! I've sent away for two books 'Total Recall' and 'Train Your Dog Positively', they should be here before Christmas so we can start proper training, although we trained one dog from a puppy our other two dogs were quite well trained when we got them so we just had to reinforce what they knew and add bits here and there, I've found out in the past week that trying to re-train a half trained and very lively two year old is much harder - and he's more intelligent than me! :
Re: Just introducing myself Hello and a warm welcome from me and my two dogs , so sorry about your loss , they do leave such a massive hole in our lives x
Re: Just introducing myself Madge I'm so sorry I didn't say hi earlier,I'm just going through all the new members and their news and noticed I'd not written. I'm sorry you've had a double loss of your older dogs,a very sad time for you I'm sure x How is life going with your new charge? Best wishes Angela x
Re: Just introducing myself Thank you Kate and Angela, everyone has made me feel very welcome. Unfortunately our new dog proved too much of a handful for us, so he went back on Saturday, he was so lovely too but we think that we have done the best for him, he is going to do some further training with a view to being a working dog which I think will suit him far better than living with two quiet OAP's, so it is back to the drawing board for us.
