Keir has been attacked in the park.

It was a large grey Staffie mix. It grabbed Keir’s muzzle and wouldn’t let go. The owner prized it’s mouth open eventually after what seemed an age. It was probably thirty seconds. Keir was screaming.

I walked straight to the vet with him and, luckily, he just has one puncture wound above his lip.

The young man with the dog was a very nice lad. The dog has been recently rescued from a dog fighting ring. I strongly recommended that he keep the dog on a lead and muzzle her. He said he felt mean to do that. I said he’d feel far worse if the dog were taken off him. I gave him lots of tips on muzzle training - let’s hope he takes it on board.

My fear now, of course, is that Keir is affected mentally by his ordeal. Soon after this he met three dogs and had a little play with each of them. Touch wood these happy encounters helped to erase the memory of the attack. I think I’m more shaken up than he was, my hands won’t stop shaking.

I’m carless today so phoned a taxi to get us home, as Keir had had three injections - anti inflammatory, antibiotic and pain killer - so I didn’t want him to have the stress of walking home on top of that.

    The taxi refused us :(

So the vet very kindly brought us home in her land rover, bless her xx. I’m going to take a big box of chocolates in for them later.

I took a photo to show OH. You can see the cut on Keir’s lip.

Oh no, poor Keir and you Mags. I hope the owner takes your advice seriously. What an ass of a taxi driver, that's absolutely disgusting to refuse you. Lovely vet though. I really hope Keir will be ok in the coming days. Hope you have stopped shaking Mags. A horrible experience for you both :(:hug: to you both xxxx

Aah @Boogie - I am so sorry this has happened to Kier and I so understand why you are upset. Under the circumstances you sound as though you were very helpful to the other dog’s owner. It’s appalling the taxi refused you. Big big :hug:‘s to you and Kier.

If Kier managed to have a little play with other dogs, hopefully he will be ok - I do hope so.

Oooh, doesn't that make you cross - that poor beautiful little dog of yours.

I can understand the young owner's sentiments with regards a rescue dog, but let's hope he took on board what you said could happen if his dog attacked again - with worse results.

Fingers crossed Keir isn't affected long term x

    Thank you all.

We have both recovered now. Keir is sleepy and Tatze is keeping a close eye on him xx

Nasty thing to happen, I hope it doesn't have any lasting detrimental effect on Keir.

Poor lad. What a horrible experience for you both. Glad it was not worse. I hope he bounces right back from this.

Hope that dog owner buys a muzzle for everyone’s safety....including his dog’s.

Poor Keir and poor you. I hope Keir isn’t affected by the attack (and your advice is followed by the lad too). It could have been even worse and doesn’t bear thinking about.

Oh, Mags, I'm so sorry to hear this! This would do anyone's head in, even yours. It sounds like BOTH of you handled it like pros. Keir is such a placid boy and you've already given him such a strong foundation, that chances are really high that he'll just go along as usual without any ill effects.

For the taxi who wouldn't take you, I say, what a stinkin' sausage head. Very glad the vet saved the day and helped out.

Hugs to you and big pets to Keir and Tatze (who looks to be taking her emotional support dog duties very seriously)

My regards to Keir too - Hopefully he'll bounce back with his Guide Dog temperament. As for the Staffie mix - I really hope his owner takes your advice on board - having survived the fighting ring he deserves a nice life too.
