Thank you Boogie. I am still in a state of shock and loss but when I surface I think I will want another dog as it seems so strange with only one. I have had multiple dogs since 1984, twos and threes and then twos again until Wednesday.
Keir is growing fast and he's a lovely, gentle and sensible boy. I was away on holiday for two weeks and him and Mollie had a great time together at their boarders. As a bonus they completed his housetraining Yesterday we visited a new friend, Echo, who is a pure Golden Retriever and also a Guide Dog puppy. She's exactly the same age as him - 16 weeks. He was a bit overwhelmed by her at first, as he's used to the bigger dogs who give in to him all the time. But he soon found his feet and had a great time with her. Her fur is much smoother with none of the teddy bear fluff. Today we went for a lead walk round the block, he's at the 'every leaf is fascinating' stage, I love this challenge and teaching them to walk well on the lead - so rewarding for me and him
Keir had his first free run today (GD pups are not allowed free runs until they are 17 weeks old as their last injection is at 16 weeks) He stuck very close and was unsure at first, it was hard to get far enough away to practice a recall. But then a big dog led him astray and I blew the whistle, he wasn't sure where the sound was coming from so I called his name. More practice needed, but a good start
What a good recall! I love how he looks around when you blow the whistle in #3. "Wow, that's a strange bird - where is it??". Does he remind you of Bruce? I'm getting the Bruce vibe in the videos.
Yes, he's so gentle and sweet and loves a fuss. When I towelled him down he just rolled on his back, loving it. My Labs and Lab X dogs haven't liked the towelling down part of the walk. No mouthing at all, except of the two other dogs. I can trust him with the smallest toddlers. He's also like Bruce in that it's better to 'suggest' behaviours and let him think he thought of it himself!
My supervisor visited today and Keir has earned his jacket - good boy! He will be wearing it for meals only for a week or so, then when he's out and about. Aren't I smart?
I'm really feeling the need to rush up to your place, throw myself around on the floor and just roll around with all of them for a couple hours.
Breakfast time. Keir wears his jacket for every meal to get him used to it before wearing it for work
