The breeder kept the puppies in a kennel outside, so is it normal to expect them to prefer to be outside?

Annabelle has started crying and whining inside, take her outside she's happy as can be. She pees, poops I bring her inside and she seems to wander around after a small amount of play and whimpers and cries.

Is it missing her littermates or just par for the course transitioning her to be inside? It makes me a bit paranoid that she needs to go to the bathroom but she's not doing the typical sniff and pace just wandering around crying. I avoid giving her attention, when she's quiet I take her back outside due to paranoia it's that she needs to relieve herself but it doesn't appear to be the case.

    Thanks!

Edited to add, now she has fallen asleep on the floor outside her crate.

Please dont worry, its a whole new environment for her , away from her siblings and everything she has known in her short life . I really dont think its too much to do with indoors/outdoors , just the newness of everything , lots of cuddles and play, lots of naps, full tummy, give her time and she will soon adapt x

Maisie has always whined when she wants my attention or is unsure about something. It started a few days after we brought her home and has reduced quite significantly over the two weeks she has been with us. She seems to whine a lot when she is tired and is waiting for a cuddle!!
I just ignored her when she was whining at me.

Harley was kept outside with her mum and siblings, she adapted with being inside and a new home within a few days. Mum sure Annabelle is just missing her siblings and mum, lots of cuddles will help :)

Pongo was a kennels puppy - it took him a couple of days to get used to being inside but not a problem. I'm absolutely sure she will be fine, it is just all new to her. You're doing all the right things.

If you are like me, the next few weeks are going to be a string of worrying about whether this or that is right or wrong, is she OK, am i doing it right...... I found that this forum was FANTASTIC for advice and reassurance, so just keep posting on here and we'll all be here for you and your lovely pup!

Good luck, hope you have some sleep tonight...

Everything is new to her, it will take her a few day to adjust to her new surrounding and she will be missing the constant companionship of mother and siblings.. Lots of fluffy toys to keep her snuggled in at sleep times, and maybe when she starts to wonder and cry play/fun training for distraction.

I got Scout at 6 weeks (puppies been taken off mum really early because she wasn't coping) and we said for the first 2 weeks we wouldn't have any rules, we would pamper, spoil, smother with cuddles, she was even allowed to sleep on us on settee (which my partner doesn't agree with) everyone said "don't do it, you will make things harder for yourself, start as you mean to go on etc... And you know What after the 2 "babies weeks" we brought in all the rules and she was fine.
A few cries, wanting to be constantly picked up (yes she was picked up and given lots of hugs still but not up on sofa or allowed to go to sleep)
It's all adjustment but she will adapt and not remember before and you will become her whole world and there is no better feeling ;D

Penny was born in a stables as her parents are working gundogs that live in the stables. I worried about how well she would adapt to being brought indoors as I had read that pups that were kennel bred would be more fearful of household noises and harder to housetrain, among other things. I prepared myself to have to do all this extra socialising with her to make sure she was ok with being in a house but everything turned out fine.

Most likely it's the change in coming to a new home. It's a massive change, even for an adult dog, and with the rescue dogs we used to rehome we always used to warn owners that it can take weeks for a dog to adjust to a new environment.
She's probably missing her siblings too, going from romping around with her litter mates all day to being with only humans is bound to be strange.

You're doing the right thing by ignoring the whining but at the same time maybe all she wants is a bit of comfort and reassurance?

Poppy was raised in a stable too. She took to our house as though she'd always lived there - but I think that was because we had the older Labrador who immediately made her feel at home. Annabelle is just missing her siblings and will settle in a couple of days. It must be a terrible upheaval for a little pup - just give her lots of love and reassurance - she'll be fine. :)

I had a dog who had lived only in kennels for the first 13 months of his life until I had him, he settled well. I think it is just your pup missing her siblings. My present two year old was also brought up in kennels until I had him at 8 weeks and he settled :)

See, I tend to get so worked up on the "rules" that I worry about creating bad habits. If it's ok to just snuggle and love on her for a week or two then Id love to just be able to do that. Right now I feel like a lot of "don't do this, don't do that, ignore this, praise that". Understandable that the little love is sad and unsure.

Thank you for reassuring me and giving me an alternate way of viewing this. Other than the odd whimpering crying today she is coming along very well. Last night when both kids were in bed I sat with pup on the floor, the sweetheart climbed onto my lap into my arms and fell asleep. Heart melted!
