Hi - I have just joined and I am in exactly the same boat. Murphy is nearly 14 and has had really good health up until the last couple of months really, he has the usual hip/knee arthritis problems. He has been having an Articulation Supplement for the last couple of years but now is in need of anti-inflammatories on a permanent basis which isn't a good thing for his kidneys. The vet suggested putting him on a Renal diet, but they are all for Kidney disease or Chronic Failure, he has neither, and I have read that Phosphorous is the thing to reduce and only give HIgh Quality Protein. Does anyone have any suggestions please? I am also waiting for a reply regarding Turmeric as an alternative anti-inflammatory or Boswellia which has absolutley no reported side effects. It's a bit confusing so any advice would be welcome please
Can I ask what he does have then as its either chronic or acute? I didn't really understand what your dogs been diagnosed with. I've used renal diet on and off since diagnosis. At the moment she won't eat it so she's on some normal wet food. She's sometimes sick but mostly fine. She Has a blood and urine check every 2 to 3 months or more often if she's ill. I can't use any drugs except opiates and things like paracetamol to help manage her pain and have to be careful with those as the can make her vomit and breathless. I don't use anything which I haven't discussed with my vet and am just careful and watchful.she is also prone to infections as her immune system is depleted. She also gets very anaemic and breathless. She is considered a grade 3 and is expected to live from 3 months to a year from diagnosis. She's doing very well considering.
You might be right it's been nearly a week of no morning waking. I have to wake her. It's not the clocks either it started last week. It's weird
I'd look forward to some annoying barking. When Belle first fell really ill, she stopped barking. She was off he legs. I thought her time was up, but the vet thought otherwise, and in a few days she was back barking out the window. It used to drive me potty (as it does when Coco does it), but when she rallied and stood in front of that window, bouncing up and down on her front feet as she barked, I was so happy. Here's to another early morning bark-fest.
He voice is all croaky. She had a bit a fun session running up and down the fence and trying to smell the dog next door who she hates and is convinced she can do over even though he's 3 times bigger than her. She ate her tea and had had s bit of a cuddle then bossed me about for a bit. She looking ok again after her up and down week. She seems happier and very with it again. Hopefully whatever it was has passed.
It's the worst today it's the anniversary of Doug's death I've had nasty chemicals and its a bank holiday. Chris has been reminding me all evening that my animals die or have to be pts on bank holidays. I have told her that shes got to wait at least a week or two before she gets ill again. she is a cheeky little devil she's even had doggie chocolate today . It's a very strange time It's good news though and we will make hay while we can
Nasty chemicals stink, anniversaries even more so. That's a real one-two whammy. Moo seems one to buck expectations (and tradition) out of sheer cheekiness, so if she has anything to do with it, THIS bank holiday will be about her eating her doggie chocolate, shouting at you at 2am to keep you on your toes and administering the occasional therapeutic cuddle.
Off too the vets not a good night. She won't eat and just looking stressed.got to squeeze a urine sample out if the little beast.
