All of our Labs have been fine with kids, or anyone else they met. They might accidentally knock a small person down, but they would never bite. Cooper is still a pup, but I would trust Tilly (and Ginger before her) in any situation with kids. They would probably get licked, but never bitten. All of our Labs and my Collie that I had growing up seemed to be really non aggressive with other dogs or people. I may not remember everything about my Collie, but all three Labs have been strong confident dogs, but they would allow people including kids to do pretty much anything. The might struggle to get away, but they would not snap or bite no matter what. This was not something we taught, it is just the way they were. We introduced them to children and adults of all races when they were young, and they seemed to understand that little people were more fragile than big people. They were all non-aggressive to other dogs as well, although Ginger would bark and growl at dogs that were aggressive towards her. Tilly really would not. I've always been a little concerned that she would not defend herself if attacked by another dog or Coyote, even though she might be bigger and stronger. All of them would play rough with other dogs as long as it was play. Cooper is bigger and stronger, but still shows no inclination to snap or bite except in play with other dogs. My Malamute was a somewhat different story. I don't recall him ever getting into a dog fight, but he would take any prey animal and would growl and eventually snap if he did not like what was happening to him. Mostly it related to fresh bones, but I would never have trusted him left alone with small children.
