We strayed off the reservation ( Cornwall ) this morning to the dog shelter near Tiverton in Devon to take a collection of donated towels and bedding , taking Sam and Millie as usual . Dropped of the car load , had a welcome cup of tea and began to look through their catalogue , but stopped myself, its a dangerous thing to do : This is a run we do about every two or three months, sometimes, as today , we stop off on a little area on Dartmoor for a picnic and a run for the dogs, then set off back up the A30 to Bodmin Moor. Sam and Millie have car harness , both usually snooze on the back seat after their run but we can guarantee that just after we turn off the A30 at Jamaica Inn to head down the valley towards home , Sam will sit up , look out of the window and wag his tail furiously Makes you wonder , has he gauged the time , or is it the smell of " his " patch ?
Re: Knowing where they are ? I think they do know. As soon as I go over the roundabout by my house Harley seems to know we are nearly home as she starts sitting up and eager to get out of the car
Re: Knowing where they are ? I think it must be the smell! Years ago we had a Collie cross dog and used to visit my Mother in Law who lived 130 miles away, we would arrive in the dark and yet at a certain point about 1/4 mile from the house she would wake up and get excited.
Re: Knowing where they are ? Yep Hattie & Charlie sit up in the car when we approach the boys school and look in the exact direction of where they will be waiting, tails wagging and much excitement
