I am looking for ideas for fillings for Alfies Kong toy, someone suggested peanut butter, but he wasn't keen on that.
I believe there is entire thread on this...peanut butter upsets Quinn's stomach on it's own, so my go-to kong fillings are plain yogurt mixed with banana and sometimes a bit of peanut butter and frozen; organic baby food (carrot or sweet potato) mixed with kibble and frozen; wet puppy food mixed with kibble and frozen. Ripe banana is so easy and you can give it to him frozen or not if you are in a hurry and it doesn't fall out. You can also google recipes - there are tons out there! I also keep baby carrots frozen and stuff 3 at a time in her puppy kong.
Ground turkey (raw) then freeze. Avoid peanut butter. Most brands contain sugar. Don't feed your dog sugar.
Here you go, have a look here We use frozen kongs, their current favourite is a few bits of kibble topped with tinned sardines (in water) and frozen http://thelabradorforum.com/threads/stuffed-kongs.5133/
We have great success with the sachets of James wellbeloved wet food in Mole's Kongs as he has that brand kibble. Early days we just used soaked kibble mixed with some chopped banana.
I get some white boned and skinned fish and cook it till its soft then squish into a khong and seal the top with a square of dried fish skin. You can either freeze them of just put them in the fridge for a bit either they love them. I have to take care what Rory has as he is prone to colitis and have never had a problem with this. I get the fish form the super market frozen its cheap. I also use wet dog food in a similar way but mix it with some dried food then plug the end. the jury is out on bananas in our house 1 dog loves then the other 2 don't. They take them and hide them and moos face when she licks one is just so funny. She doesn't want one of the others to have it but can't stand them. A very conflicted little lab
Good question. I really don't know but my best guess is that it's better (safer) than what you'll find in most brands. My lab is odd in that he never took to it. Here's an article on the subject: http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/3-reasons-peanut-butter-isnt-safe-for-dogs-or-people/
Interesting - I had heard about peanut butter not being good for dogs before. We rarely give it, and if we do, approx a tsp natural/organic peanut butter mixed with other ingredients, like banana. Will likely stop that now!
I put kibble in water so it expands, then into the Kong and into freezer. I used to put peanut butter to top off the hole on top but found that Cooper had loose stool after he at this so discontinued....sometimes mix wet kibble with ripe banana, but not often. I use part of Cooper's daily food allowance to use in Kong. He is quite happy to work on Kong with kibble so don't have to add anything else.
Never thought of a frozen sausage.....he will love that! Do you feed Baxter raw food, Elizabeth? I do not .... he does have small pieces of toast, cheese, hotdog but as treats, not as his regular food. But I know he would go crazy for sausage!!!
Humous or soft cream cheese. I put some kibble in first then plug it with peanut butter, humours or soft cheese, even yogurt. Peanut butter and be a bit sticky and he doesn't get it all out. Kongs go in the dishwasher quite well and come out quite clean again.
Juno says sausage is about the bestest food ever Baxter is vey spoilt - organic sausage. Juno is now complaining as she just gets butchers finest Lincolnshire
