We have had our sweet Gus for 3 weeks now (he is almost 9 weeks, chocolate lab) and he seems oddly calm for a lab puppy? We have had other labs but it's been quite some time since we've had a puppy. I don't remember any of our other ones being so calm and relaxed. Does anyone else have a calm lab? Is it still to early to tell and he's just a normal little pup? Not that I'm complaining if this is his temperament!! lol I just worry about every little thing at the moment with him and am about to drive myself crazy! He's been to the vet and everything has checked out fine. This is our first time posting so thank you in advance!!

Lucky you ;). If the vet has checked his health then I wouldn't worry -and he still may change. My last Lab wasn't nearly as bitey as a puppy as Molly was. I put it down to not getting him till 10 weeks, but who knows, perhaps it was just his nature. Enjoy your sweet boy.

Hi and welcome from me and mine . You must have had Gus at six weeks of age then, which is really very young indeed , it should really be 8 weeks minimum . Maybe this has a bearing on his calmness ? My own dog, now six years old, was a calm puppy and turned into a calm laid back dog , far more so than any of the others I have owned in the past ! if your Vet is happy, then make the most of it !

We have a calm pup. MAX is now 13 weeks old today, he is so chilled out and laid back (mostly) I keep thinking he is going to turn into a "normal" puppy, but three weeks in still totally content to behave like a 80 year old, not that I'm complaining. He has been checked by the vet and no problems.
He has his moments when playing, but is quite happy to chill with us

    Shhhhhhhhh!

Mollie was really calm when she arrived, then started the crocapup phase at 12 weeks and it lasted a looooong time!

Keir is 16 weeks now and really calm and gentle. Fingers and paws crossed him and Gus remain that way!

Hi, yes lucky you, lets hope it continues. My puppy was one of a litter of six, one dog puppy has been the dream, laid back puppy you describe and the other one has been the most hyper boisterous energetic youngster you could imagine. So it could be just how he is :)

Love the name Gus, I had a ginger cat once called Gus.

Thank you everyone!!! He was just shy of 6 weeks when we got him so yes very young. But that isn't uncommon where we live I suppose, although not recommended!! He was also showing some dominance over the other puppies and we wanted to pick him up a bit sooner. Our breeder did tell us to begin with that the mother and father were very laid back. He was bread to bird hunt which he has awesome drive already for!! But he's just so calm it had us worried! We will definitely enjoy it as it seems to be nothing of concern and he may change any minute!! Lol!!

Koda, now 6 months, was very calm and laid back for the first 2 months that we had him. Um, not so much any more. He's definitely more like a typical lab now!

Von is 13 weeks now and very calm. She was noticeably calmer than her litter-mates when we picked her up. We got her last week and I've been waiting for her craizyness to emerge, but I think we just got a calm girl. She is incredibly smart and is already doing great at simple commands and recall training. We have 3 small kids and she is very gentle with them as well. My last lab, Lacey was also a calm girl compared to other labs I know.
