    Hello everyone

My name is Nick and I am new to the forum.

I grew up with a yellow labrador many moons ago as a teenager(im 35 now) and now I am looking for a lab pub to bring in to my family home.

My only concern is that we live in a flat. That said it isnt a small fat and is very big and airy. We have access to a front small space and back on to one of the largest dog walking parks in Cardiff.

I have read some stuff online saying it is fine to live in a flat as long as they are regulary taken outside. I juts wanted to check if there are any concerns in having a lab in a flat.

Rest assured the dog would be walked reularly etc and I am a guitar teacher that is based from home, I just wanted to get some sound advice from those who have labs.

    Thanks all

Hi Nick, and a very warm welcome to the forum!
There are plenty of forum members who have had this problem and dealt well with it so they may be best to answer here. The main thing really is taking care on the stairs - yourself as well as you growing pup - and making plenty of toilet stops. There is a recent thread about this I will try and find it.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
Do you live by Bute Park? My daughter is in uni in Cardiff and we often go there when we visit.......beautiful place.
I don't see a problem with being in a flat as long as you do lots of toilet trips outside (stairs will keep you nice and fit!) and you will need to carry them down the stairs for quite a while so as not to damage their growing limbs.

    Welcome :)

As the others have said you can definitely have a dog in a flat. We have a back yard and front yard but our dog is 98% of his time in the house, so we might as well live in a flat :) Toilet training will be a bit more of a drag for you (mainly because of the number of times you'll need to negotiate the stairs....unless you are lucky enough to have a lift (elevator)) but it's definitely do-able.

Hi and welcome. You can certainly deal with a puppy in a flat - I have friends who got their labradoodle puppy when they were living on the 20th floor in a hotel suite! Not ideal, but they made it work. Toilet training is definitely more tiresome than just keeping the back door to the garden open, but doable.

Great. We are lucky that we have a flat in a two story house. So thankfully not too many stairs for me to walk to down

    Thanks for replying

Welcome Nick, Hattie 8 years and rescue boy Charlie 5 years. Good luck with your puppy, you have parks and lovely walks in your part of the country so you will be fine with lots of outings and walks. Good luck. Helen x :)
