I would never recommend breeding from any dog which is not in perfect health with a good temperament.

Why would the vet be recommending you breed from a dog that has health issues and why do you want him to be a stud dog?

I think is unwise to breed from any dog that is not or has not been 100% the picture of heath. It's just not kind to pass on potential health concerns to the next generation. Have you also factored in the genetic screening tests and hip/elbow scores needed. Think you need to enjoy him as a wonderful pet and concentrate on his well being.
