Hi, Can anyone please help. I have a 10 month old Lab, who has suddenly started pulling and sometimes jumping towards fast traffic (not quite sure if she is afraid of the noise). I don't want to avoid busy roads forever but also don't want it to get out of hand and someone get hurt. Any advice on how I can stop her doing this would be great.

    Hi @Cat36

    welcome to the forum

Teach your dog Look at That. https://thelabradorforum.com/threads/look-at-that.22184/

Watch the excellent video. Train at home, back garden, quiet park far from traffic. Don't take your dog out near traffic while you are training and proofing the cue.

Once you have it working, find a street where there is a walking path/lane way that you can walk along and be approach the busy street from afar. Now implement your look at That cue as your dog watches and hears the traffic. Over many repetitions and different days gradually move closer and closer to the busy street. Then find another lane where you can implement the same training scheme. Once walking along the street pick busy times where cars are forced to travel slowly. And if you hear trucks or motor bikes in the distance get in your look at that cues early. Only gradually get to walking when traffic is less congested and average vehicle speeds and engine noises will be louder.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi thanks for this information I will certainly give it a go. Never used a clicker before so may have to use a verbal cue. Would appear our girl has just come into season (first time) so a good chance to get practising this in the garden whilst we cannot get out walking much. Thanks

Yes is fine. There was a study of clickers and verbal markers. The authors found no statistical difference between the two methods.
