I have an18 month old yellow lab and I am trying to decide whether or not to neuter him. On top of that I’m debating doing a gastroplexy if he is neutered… he is very deep chested and I am so scared of him bloating in the future. can anyone offer opinions/insight on both? As far as neutering I am worried it will affect his confidence.
Hi Melissa, welcome to the forum Neutering is such a personal choice, there is no right or wrong answer, just what's best for your dog and you. This article has some of the most recent evidence on the pros and cons of neutering Labs, to help you decide. We've also got this guide to bloat, and how best to avoid it. It doesn't have a lot of detail in it about preventative gastropexy though, and I'm afraid it's not something I know a lot about either, but I'm sure your vet will be able to help you weigh up the potential risks and benefits.
