hi i have. A Male chocolate Labrador retriever and a female. Blonde miniature labradoodle. Wondering breeding what would i get ? Female is only about 17 lbs and obviously lab male is a lot bigger is this a danger to the female birth wise ? And any idea what type of puppies we would expect. Please any help appreciated
I am going to be blunt. You should not even consider this unless you REALLY know what you are doing, and obviously, you don't. Not being rude, but you wouldn't be here asking questions if this was the case. The problems are numerous. The mating itself would be risky. The pregnancy would be risky. The bitch would likely need a caesarian section, vet on call, and that would be expensive! There is a considerable risk to the life of the bitch, for the likelihood of just a few pups. I haven't even started on the need for appropriate health testing prior to mating which is an absolute must, hips, elbows and eyes to name just a few. I am sorry if this is sounding negative, but I really wouldn't be advising going down this route.
I totally agree with Beanwood. Here are the guidelines just on health-testing for labradoodles: https://www.petful.com/pet-health/labradoodle-health-issues-designer-dog/ You don't avoid the need to health-test your dogs before breeding them. But really, why breed them? What are you hoping to achieve, by breeding them? If you just want to produce nice crossbred pups, then really every rescue shelter everywhere, is overflowing with them already. Vet bills are horrendously expensive and so is raising a litter. Doing it well is even more expensive.
