Has anyone got any tips on training a dog to go over a ladder stile? Though most of our walks have stiles with gaps in the fence/wall for Bess to squeeze through some of them don't and Bess is very reluctant to go up the open steps/rungs. Alice
Re: ladder stiles Can't give you any tips I'm afraid. Not something we come across. I would always try and squeeze apart the fence line rather than do any jumping Good luck though!
Re: ladder stiles I had this with one of my old dogs. I went up the ladder first and encouraged from the top with the standard "Hup" etc and then went over. The want and desire to be with you may well over come the dislike of open ladder treads. A bit of high value treat on each rung may work as well. I did have the advantage of a second dog to help as well though. Good luck..
Re: ladder stiles I was going to say the same! I would go over and keep walking, the desire for the dog to be with you usually makes them decide to overcome their reluctance. Unless of course it was a puppy or old and infirm dog.
Re: ladder stiles I've come across them in Cornwall. Lady worked out how to do it when she saw us crossing. Her solution is to run up the wall! Once they've worked out how to do it, the stop command or wait command is most important. ;D
