He looks very sweet. As everyone else has said toilet training takes a few weeks at least.
What is he crossed with? (Interested as my Molly is also a cross, Lab x Chesapeake Bay Retriever.)

    Hi Joy, and thank you.

Bud is crossed with a Springer Spaniel, and as i speak there seems to be a lot of spring in his step because he is having a mad half hour!

Jane, thank you. He is adorable isn't he? We will keep persevering with the training.

Karen...he is a Lab Cross Springer Spaniel. And thank you...he certainly is a beautiful little fella.

Oh - I love spaniel/lab crosses! My old dog Billy was a lab/Brittany spaniel cross; a very fine, intelligent, loyal and handsome dog, much missed xx

    Karen...sorry to hear about Billy.

All this is newer to me than my wife, who has had pups in the past, but i sense that Bud will show a great deal of intelligence, loyalty, and great energy. He certainly completes us.

    Thank you Rachael.

We love him to bits, and cute is a term used regularly. So very fitting.

It took a while getting the photos sorted but i got there eventually. I was a bit concerned though as i had read on another post on this site that the options to upload directly into the forum were removed because it can take up a lot of valuable space.

My next challenge.....an avatar that shows Bud.

    Thank you again.

    Cheers Tom.

May i ask an open question to whomever wishes to answer. If i have further queries is it best to start a new posting or can i continue here?

And is it ok continuing updates as i suggested over time......or would i need to start a new post in a more appropriate "room"?

    Thanks in advance,

I've got a soft spot for spaniels - my first dog as an adult was a Springer, wonderful nature but very energetic, so a Lab cross should be ideal. :)

If you've got specific queries you'll probably get more advice if you start a new thread for each.

Thanks Joy. I will keep that in mind for any future queries. Certainly makes sense.

It sounds like we will be kept fit with the energy our Bud is likely to have. He already shows bursts of hyperactivity. Fun times ahead.

Re: Lazy or simply still learning?

If the queries related to very different things, like, one is about puppy biting (puppy behaviour), and one is about feeding (nutrition) and one is about loose lead walking (training) then you can start new threads in the respective places if you like. It would be equally ok to ask all those questions in this thread (as they are all about puppies and you have a puppy!) but each question might get a bit less attention.

If you are just posting general updates and pics of your pup then I'd definitely do them in the thread you have started here. It is just easier to keep track of that way :)

Many thanks Rachael. I will likely resort to new posts for specific queries as each one will warrant a little attention. I appreciate the advice regarding updates on our pup....and it does make the most sense to keep them where they began, and where other dog lovers have shown interest.

The little guy is resting now so a good chance for me to do the same. :)

    UPDATE:-

Our Bud is now a couple of days away from 11 weeks, and has been extremely good with his toileting (if this is a word!) since my original posting. There have been times where i have had to take him, or mainly point him in the direction of his toilet, usually during the morning when i wake, and he relieves his bladder which tells me he needed to...yet he never indicated beforehand. I am assuming that he was comfortable holding it in until he felt the need to go.

My query is related to the same subject matter. In a few days Bud will be allowed on the ground so he will be introduced to our garden on ground level. This also means a new toilet location. Bud will have the freedom of the garden to enjoy, but i am very conscious of smells, and want to try and keep the garden as free from soiling as possible so have arranged a designated area (i hope this doesn't sound too extreme.) Is it likely to take a while to train him to use this new location?
