Re: Lead and Walking Around the Garden I dont know why I only tend to use kibble, I do mix it with bits of ham or a few puppy biscuits. I am going to pop to the pet shop this morn and see if I can find something nice to give him, especially as we are going down to Salcombe today and there are always millions of dogs around so I will definitely need something more interesting to stop him constantly pulling! I think to start with I was just worried about giving him too much of something other than his actual food which is why I only used kibble. I think I am just over worrying as he is my first dog and I will get some actual nice treats for him today. Thanks everyone

Re: Lead and Walking Around the Garden Thanks everyone for your replies I've read the topics mentioned (Collars, Zig-zagging on lead) and its a lot to take in but I've made notes and favourited Pipp's articles. So we need to master 'heel', obviously this will be in the garden. In terms of the harness, which is best? A lupi or a halti? I think I'm going to invest in a clicker too. It's something that I keep coming across and keeps popping up in topics and articles. It's something I've thought to purchase but thought it was to confusing for me to use and I'd use it in the wrong way. I do worry at times that I'm not up to all of this. I need to prove to myself I can do this...

[/quote] Just to keep a young pup safe while it's learning, I would go for a simple, soft fabric, back fastening harness - no lupi or halti or anything fancy. Clicker training is great. Charge the clicker, get your timing right, a bag of treats, and it just works!

Re: Lead and Walking Around the Garden Bought a clicker last night and Ive been charging the clicker as of this morning. Hopefully I've used that in the correct sense... Dexter is now in his bed with a frozen Kong ready to doze off. What would I do without this site?! Ha ha. Clicker training (me and Dexter) and freezing Kong's! Karl and I went to ASDA last night and I said to him, down the biscuit aisle, about how I'm going to bake Dexter some biscuits soon ;D
