My husband is away this week and I'm working really hard with Ripple on the biting and nipping. However I'm now having another problem which I'm not sure how to deal with. When Ripple is out on a walk he suddenly goes mad jumping up at me, biting really hard and literally tearing my clothes - this nearly always happens somewhere where I cannot let go of the lead and need to keep him safe. I'm really concerned as he is almost throttling himself and I can't get control of the situation safely, he won't listen to any instructions and it starts with no warning. This morning I managed to pick him up and carry him home but at 4 months old, wriggling and squirming it's not the easiest of solutions. Please does anyone have any ideas on how I can deal with this as I'm really worried about neck damage (I have tried to use a harness but it's virtually impossible to get it on him even when he's calm).
Hi I haven't got any great ideas with the walking as we are struggling with Eric too (he and Ripple really do sound alike!) However with the harness we seem to be making progress. we ask him to sit, click and treat whilst he's munching put harness over head, click and treat first paw through, click and treat fasten one side, quickly the next, click and treat Once one he rolls on floor as if trying to get it off but once he sees lead he hops up Then the walking (or not walking) fun begins...
Well done with getting the harness on! As soon as Ripple sees it he starts rolling on the floor and biting when we go near him, it started to have a knock-on effect with the lead and was making that more difficult to put on as well so we have put the harness away for the time being. I had quite a reasonable walk with Ripple this afternoon, only spent about half of it standing still waiting for him to stop pulling, however he came home really tired and after his dinner was being a real horror so it was early to bed with a kong.
