Your right dogs will be dogs it's the owners in the wrong.

Report it to the police or the dog warden. I'm not sure but I think the dog warden can do more although I could be wrong they probably do the same.

My friend reported a mastiff that had attacked her dog to the dog warden who told the owner she hadn't to walk it with out a muzzle or she would be fined.

My sister reported an alsation to the police which ran out of a driveway and across a main road to get at her dog. The police went around and told them not to let it happen again. I'm not sure if they warned of a penalty if it did.

I'm so sorry for poor Lola and you.

I walked down a separate path to them anticipating them boing there but as soon as the dog saw us it came straight at us. Still snapping once I had picked her up nipping her feet. Even bit me. Left teeth marks in my coat!!

I want to stand my ground and not be pushed out by this silly woman because it is the only walk I have done where I have come across any other dogs and it is a lovely walk.

Ah, sorry this happened again. What a bully that woman is.

I'd report it to the warden. The dog is dangerous. Don't let Lola anywhere near it - it's too risky.

I agree with Rachael. Ive mentioned before with my old lab i got quite used to dog attacks. I never reported it because as I've said dogs will be dogs plus they were different dogs, I didn't know where these people had come from but it did make me very cross.

However if a dog had got hold of me even my coat I would do something about it. Suppose it was a child walking a dog that it went for or you'd had a child with you !!!!

Don't make trouble for yourself though. This woman obviously has no manners and really doesn't care and from what you said on your first post is perhaps not the sort of person you want to get on the wrong side of. :(

    Sleep on it .

I'd walk with a friend for a few days if possible. She does sound like a bully, and as such will almost certainly be cowed by more than one person.

I think I probably have let my temper get the best of me there its just why should we have to walk somewhere else just because she has no manners?

I have just looked for wardens in my area and looks like they only really deal with strays but I'll give it a go maybe they can point me in the right direction.

If I had my son with me I would and it went for him I would probably have gouge her eyes out!

@Karen - you would think so but I had my other half with me today, he is 6'3 and built to suit so I can't see that changing much :(

I totally agree that it's unfair and I don't think you need to stop walking there. But is there a different time of day to walk when that person might not be there? If you do see her pick up Lola the instant you see her coming. Stand to the side and wait till they pass.

    And do report the dog.

Just found the number for our neighbourhood police officer so I am calling in the morning. From what another owner said today they all spend most of the morning there and morning is the only time I feel comfortable walking her at the minute cause that is when my son is at nursery. He only does mornings and don't feel safe walking both now :'(

As for picking her up I won't be able to do that for too much longer she's getting seriously big lol.

So you don't think recording it is a bit OTT?

No report it. If you had had your son with you it could have been a lot worse. :(

I don't think I exaggerate when I say I walk in what must be one of the busiest dog walking areas in the UK. Parts of Wimbledon Common are wall to wall off lead dogs. I'd be surprised if less than thousands of dogs use this space over a couple of weeks.

There are good dogs, and bad dogs. Good owners and bad owners. And a whole grey spectrum of owners and dogs in between about what's viewed as acceptable.

Coping and avoidance strategies are key. And no chance of any dog warden or police officer doing anything unless a dog or person is actually hurt - but I could spend a huge amount of time and energy complaining. Clothes don't count.

I'm hugely sympathetic to the situation you find yourself in. But I honestly think avoidance and coping is the thing.

By the way, I'm no push over either - I'll have an aggressive looking dog on a lead and separated from my dog before you can say "so sue me". But I usually do it with only a calmly delivered explanation, and definitely without an argument with another owner. Just no point.

Wish you the best of luck with this.

I am not complaining that it left a mark my clothes just pointing out that it wasn't just barking but biting.

Nor am I a push over.

I agree with Rachael and Jen. The horrible bullying woman who lives down my road with the aggressive GWP and the marginally nicer Weimaraner only finally took some responsibility for her dogs after several neighbours (including me) reported her to the police. She is still horrible; but more guarded now - no more verbal threats from her. So yes - do report it.

I don't think you are a push over. I think you sound up for a fight. My view, and honest experience, is that avoiding the situation is better. That's what I meant.

The fact that it ripped your clothing is terrible and you have every right to be very angry.

Any incident like this would be taken seriously by the authorities where I live. If a dog ripped clothing with its teeth the owner would be fined and the dog quite possibly declared dangerous (or at least be required to stay on lead). The next step for a dog like that may be connecting with flesh. Or a child's face. All dog bites are therefore treated with seriousness here - no matter what has been bitten. Once a dog got into my yard and bit one of my ducks. I had two dog wardens there within 15 minutes.

Now, I am not saying that it is the dog's fault. It is the owner's fault. This person have allowed this dog to become dangerous through their hopeless management of the dog.

So sorry you are having this problem :'(

Where I live the local PCSO's are brilliant. I spoke to them about a boxer dog who kept jumping his fence which backed onto a field and would get a bit aggressive with Harley when she was younger. They went round and spoke to the woman and gave her a warning. They also walked to the field occasionally to make sure it wasn't happening. It certainly helped us :) I would suggest you call them and have a chat. Good luck x

I've been thinking if you report this dog you might find your not the first to report it. I doubt it's singling out Lola for special treatment. :(

The more complaints that are made the more the authorities can probably do.

My sister and my friend had a very prompt response from both the police and the dog warden and they did go and see the owners and the woman with the mastif was told it must be walked with a muzzle. The dog that ran out at my sister tried to bite her dog but didn't actually hurt him and the police still went to see the owner.

I agree with Jen. I really fought with myself before eventually I called the local police about the woman down our road (after she had threatened to set her dogs on my old boys). When I called them, they asked me to make a formal complaint, because lots of people had made complaints about noise, aggression, and general unpleasantness, and while one situation taken in isolation was not a big problem, all the combined complaints made it possible for the police to go round there and have a serious talk.

Of course, this same dog went for Poppy the other day… but it is a much more unusual situation these days.

What a waste of time calling local pcso was! He basically told me I should just be grateful neither of us got hurt and forget about it  to which my reply was "what if I thump her? Will you do anything then?"

I spoke to another owner this morning and he has had a run in with this dog before. I didn't need to describe the dog or say it's name he knew as soon as I said what happened.

So I am going up there on my own and I am going to try have a civilised conversation and ask her to consider other walkers if that fails I'll just stay away completely :(

I still don't blame the dog at all. I blame her completely. My family have had loads of dogs when I was growing up, from terriers and spaniels to rottweilers and Japanese akitas and I can honestly say that none of those dogs would have ever acted in this way and it infuriates me that there are owners like this out there.

    Grrrrr
