    Hi everyone,

I live in northern New Jersey, and I'm looking for a lab breeder in the northeast. Does anyone have recommendations? We are looking purely for companionship and good temperament. We'd rather use a great, smaller breeder.

Hi there, and a warm welcome to the labrador forum! :)

Whilst we don't recommend individual breeders per se,( it just gets too complicated! ) We can point you in the direction of some good articles from our website to help you in your quest for that perfect puppy. Of course, our members will have lots of advice to offer taken from their own puppy hunting experiences.

Are individual members allowed to recommend breeders in a private message?

There's no actual rule against recommending breeders at all, we just don't tend to because of the potential for people to start criticising an individual's practices, which obviously can cause moderation issues :)

So, if anyone is happy to recommend their breeder then they are free to do so either in public or in private - we just have to keep an eye on it that someone doesn't come along and say "I had a puppy from xyz breeder and their leg fell off after three weeks" or something!

Do you know whether you're looking for a certain colour, or a certain size? What does your ideal Labrador look like?

A good place to start is the Champdogs website. It can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you can quite quickly narrow your search if you're looking for only puppies from fully health-tested parents and even more so if you're looking for a particular colour.

Just to add, we do have a rule excluding breeders from advertising available litters, so any posts that look to be doing that will be removed.
