Hi Gemma, I can see you are getting awesome advice. I did what Snowbunny mentioned. I went and met my local trainer via the Gun Dog Club website. We met for an hour and basically went on a walk. He introduced me to the real basic stuff as has been mentioned, but mainly recall and the equipment I should start to use. He then told me to get the very basics sorted, recall, sit, heel, stay, and come back in a few months to start GD training.

I got the basics sorted whilst Jax was still a velcro pup, but have now signed up to basic obedience lessons locally to get the basics sorted properly, then Im going back to GD Club to move forward. I'm considering agility at the moment too, but think I will prob stick to GD.

That sounds ideal and exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks, I will look into it. If you are on Facebook then private message me your name if thats ok? Would be good to broaden my circle of doggy friends! x

Thanks for the advice! It is really interesting to see the directions other people go in and what works for them. I'm really enjoying learning about all these things and how to access them x

I was the same. I considered myself a very experienced and knowledgeable dog owner, until I got my first Lab in November and joined here - then I realised how much I 'actually' knew. :) I have learned a lot.
