We are feeding Nero the same food as the breeder did (Purina Beta puppy) but the last 3/4 days his poos are very loose. He did have his second course of jabs on Monday...would this be causing it? If not would a change of food be a good idea? If so can anyone recommend a good quality food?
Re: Loose poo The vaccinations could well have something to do with the poo being more loose , were they ok before the vacs ? if so , I would give it another couple of days before switching food as this itself can upset tums .
Re: Loose poo Loose poos in pups could be caused by over feeding too, or maybe he's picked up a tummy bug, perhaps from the vets or local dogs.
Re: Loose poo Yes before the jabs they were more firm We are feeding him 100g of dry food 4 times a day as suggested by the breeder. He does love his food....he wolfs it all down in seconds! Maybe its the treats we have been giving him when he goes toilet outside. We were giving him treats we bought from the range which are probably poor quality. We are only giving him Pedigree Chum Puppy Markies now to see how he gets on
Re: Loose poo Yes, poor quality treats are not good , the better thing to give as treats is tiny bits of cooked sausage or tiny bits of cheese , its a rare Labrador who can resist either of these ;D
Re: Loose poo Are you feeding 400g of food a day? If so, this does seem a lot. Harley is 20 weeks old and only has 330g per day. Might be worth looking at. Treats too
Re: Loose poo Yesterday we noticed a small amount of blood in his poo. He is due to have his worming tablet tomorrow. Could it be worms? And would the worming tablet resolve the problem?
Re: Loose poo Think I can help. When Otis came to me from his breeder at eight weeks he was on Beta Purina, and also had soft poo. I switched to Arden Grange Puppy, which was much better, and poos were firmer, also his coat improved in appearance. I also saw blood in his poo, and he also had worms, which I sorted out, he needed more worming tablets from the vet, milbemax, which really helped. The bllod in poo can also be a simple thing such as straining, too. He had a diet of chicken and rice, or pasta and rice for a few days, when he had runny poo, and this sorted him out too. Arden Grange isnt the only good dog food, but its the one that suits us. There a lot of good more natural dog foods out there. Also, if you want to give a low fat treat, bits of apple and carrot are really good, and healthy. Maggiexx
Re: Loose poo Thanks maggie. We have just got back from the vets and were told the same. He has had another worming tablet and some paste to settle his stomach. We also have to feed him chicken and rice for a few days then he is going back for a checkup Thursday. Soo glad its nothing serious

Re: Loose poo Just catching up - glad you went to the vet....and nothing too bad. Hope he picks up soon
Re: Loose poo Glad Nero is ok. I was going to say its quite normal for young pups to get loose bowels when they go to their new home. New germs, excitement, stress etc. When he gets back on to his dry food build it up slowly over a few days then just take note what poo is like. If it gets very soft when you get him back on to a full ration then that can be a sign hes having too much food. I'm sure he'll be back to normal in no time Jen
Re: Loose poo Thanks all. Quick question Nero was weighed today at a little over 10kg. He is 12 weeks old. Is this a decent weight?
