Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Wonderful news and a good start to the Easter weekend - I hope you have a relaxing weekend. Alice
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Just had a long conversation with the vet - he is wonderful, I know he's been on his feet all day, done 2 TTA operations, endless x-rays, and I think he spends his whole evening calling worried owners. Hugs to my vet! Email exchanges between vet and surgeon to go over all the details (partly the call was to interrogate me on the level of stiffness so the thickening of the patella ligament could be judged a good thing, in the way muscle builds). Close examination of the amount of joint fluid, and decides we're looking good. The best news: arthritis has not developed. It will, in time, there is no doubt about that - but the best quality supplements, hydro, staying slim etc may help. But most dogs have already developed arthritis by the time of the operation. We are spared - for now. We diagnosed it quickly (even though it seemed an age at the time, he was on rest, lead walks and anti-inflammatories during that time). And managed through the waiting with the lead walks and hydro (which was the trade off - wait for growth plates to close, but risk arthritis setting in early). So, hurrah for my fantastic care team. And my insurance company.
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie And hurrah to you too. You were the one who made it all happen and who orchestrated such a perfect program of care. Great news that it's all gone brilliantly and according to plan
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie You must be thrilled Julie, I think you have missed your calling working at Grey Friars Great job of care for your boy x
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Yes, thrilled to bits. Onwards. I do the same again since the op (another 8 weeks) then we can start being off lead. Same again after that (another 8 weeks). And we are back to normal. 10 months in total. Charlie didn't rupture his cruciate jumping for a frisbee, but that's the most common reason why dogs do. Throw out your frisbees. Believe me, it's not worth the risk.
