Poor Charlie and poor you ... Perhaps lots of lazing in the sun for both of you if it's a good summer. I hope the op goes well and the recovery too. :)

    Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie

Thank you for the good wishes - Charlie does not seem to be in any pain (I have pain killers at the ready, but have no reason to give them so far - he is his normal self). I have a really excellent surgeon, and Charlie has already been x-rayed and the templates done for surgery. There is no signs of arthritis in his knee (this is important, as if we keep his knee free from arthritic changes until it is stabilised, this gives the best result).

So, I am very hopeful that we'll achieve the same result on his left leg as his right - which is as good as new with a bit of titanium reinforcement as support. Although it's an absolute pain in the short term, I hope for a good long term outcome. Plus, it already isn't as hard as last time. Charlie is older, and much better trained now, so we are managing ok (he has already been on lead walks only for 10 days).

Thanks for fingers and paws crossed on Monday for him - it's such a massive and long operation, your virtual good wishes and hopes are very much appreciated.

Charlie is coming home the same day this time, as last time he was very distressed overnight, and my local vet will do a home visit if anything at all alarms me - so that's good.

I am so sorry to hear about Charlie's injury.

You do so much for him and so much for the Forum it is completely and utterly unfair.

Be thinking of you both on Monday.

Pleased to learn that he is not in pain.

Rotten news isn't it? thankfully Charlie is in the very best of hands at all stages of the process.Thats great advice to not think of it as 6 months.Take no notice of Julie, she's not been wailing at all ,she has been stoically getting on with it and putting a plan together in the brilliantly organised way that she does....no feeling sorry for herself at all.Ok,so I guess we are waiting until Monday for news as I guess it's going to be a very quiet weekend around Charlie's house this weekend

She is, indeed, incredibly organised and brilliant at planning.

So much so, she scares me a little ;)

Charlie is in the absolute best possible hands, both medically and once he gets home. There is no doubt about that.

    Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie

Well, I'm sort of ready....I have cleared rooms of furniture, and set up pen panels to divide spaces. Bed for someone to sleep downstairs with him at first, and so on.

I also have a large travel crate in the TV room so he can have company in the evenings, although not quite sure how that'll work out - I slightly fear OH ruining Charlie's perfect crate training by responding to him if he whines or paws at the mesh. We'll see.

He is much easier to manage than last time, although is still getting a few short lead walks (last day of that today) - even so, he was climbing the walls last time on just that, and games like find it, unwrapping packaging for kibble, or clicker training something new now have a much more noticeable impact in terms of calming him down (they must have helped, last time, but it still always really felt like no matter what I did he was as full of energy as always).

Just got to dig out from the cellar the pile of B&Q rubber backed doormats and place them on any remaining slippy bits of floor....(now glad I didn't throw them out, tempted though I was to do so, as I hate the floors being covered with ugly doormats but tough luck....).

You can ritually burn them once the recovery period is over. You won't need them again after this.

Obi and I send our very best wishes for Monday.
