Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Hang in there Julie. We're all behind you. Stay strong. Main thing is your lovely boy gets better again - even if it is hard on you at present, being home might even be worse for him, since he would have to be crated and would want to get out and about all the time. Think about the poor dogs who had to spend six months in quarantine, when they came into the UK, back in the bad old days.
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Poor you, I can imagine how you feel but I think I would find it really stressful too to have one of mine at home in these circumstances, I think I'd just worry about them all the time...hope the time flies in and that lovely boy is home soon...
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie I feel much better. Thanks for all the support earlier in the week. I saw him today again, and was able to spend more time with him and had long discussions with the vet, Angela and the vet nurse that looks after him. They say he is frustrated, for sure, but there is nothing to be done about that. But things are already a bit better, as his routine is getting busier now he is through his second assessment (and is judged to be doing very well). He is out of his kennel 8 times a day, not including random cuddle sessions (whenever anyone has time, or I visit). He now gets: 5 walks a day 5 Ice sessions for his leg 3 sets of passive range of motion exercises 3 Weight bearing physio sessions Plus they have added electrode stimulation for his muscles now – I think this is 3 times a week. Next week (his wound will be completely healed up) he will stand in warm water (the pressure alone has an anti-inflammatory effect), and the week after might be able to start short treadmill sessions. This is 2 weeks ahead of what they usually do, but they think he is doing well. Since most of his routine requires 2 people (all of it, apart from walks), there isn’t any way I could do it at home, even if I stopped working (which I can’t, of course). And I could not in addition drive him back for treadmill sessions. His ear is still a little red, and the stubborn lump of wax against his ear drum hasn’t shifted, so cleaning continues, but the ear drops have stopped. Keeping a close eye on it. I took him out into the garden and clicker trained not pulling up the little path, it took only 2 goes, and he was walking like an angel up the path and around the garden. So it doesn’t seem like any great damage has been done in terms of his lead walking. That made me feel much, much, better. Wonder what I was fussing about now…I must just have been so upset at leaving him, and had a bit of a melt down.
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Good to hear you had a better visit - and that Charlie is ding so well with his recovery. All credit to you for getting him so ready for the op in the first place. And melt downs are an entirely normal and absolutely essential part of the healing process. Clare
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Your response is completely understandable. It would have been a massive feat of emotional control if you hadn't found it hard. It really sounds like it would be hard to make any improvement and every day is a day nearer to coming home. Hugs for you both x
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie Thats a lovely positive post Julie , so pleased that Charlie is doing well, thats just great news ;D ;D Its perfectly normal for you to feel like you do from time to time , its a trying time for all of you , take care x
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie I'm sure you'll continue to have ups and downs Julie, that's natural. We'll sympathize with you on the down days, and rejoice with you on the ups!

Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie So glad your had a good visit today what good news it is about bringing forward his recovery plan . This is a true testament to how much work you put in before his op. Good news too on the lead walk onwards and upwards from here
Re: Lovely Chocolate Charlie You're allowed to have meltdowns! Almost compulsory under the circumstances. So glad you're feeling happier about it all though
