Have a look at the KC jregs for retriever field trials, Fiona. It says the dog is required to remain steady by the the side of the handler when being shot over. It doesn't necessarily have to sit though.
Thanks, Heidrun. This is why writing here is invaluable because it highlights potential problems with what happens in the real world. I am hoping to do my working gundog certificate with her in the future, and maybe even a test or two if possible, so getting stuff like this right at this stage (or rather, not getting it wrong) will pay dividends. I think it has helped her steadiness, but I'll discontinue this game and work on steadiness through the "shot" now.
