Hello all, This happens periodically but fairly frequently. Our Black Lab\Cocker mix (Maggie) will drink some water. She will walk away from the bowl for a minute or so and then seem to start gagging. She will then yak up a mouthful of water and saliva. It's not as much as she is throwing anything up, it's like she is hocking water/snot out. Any ideas?
Lilly does the same. She is almost 7. Sometimes changing the height of the bowl a bit, or using an anti-gulp bowl helps.
I do the same! I can choke on anything - my Mum was the same, I think our swallow reflex is slightly out of sync.
Do you limit water? I've heard letting them have free access to water anytime they want sometimes helps. If water is only available sometimes they gorge on it, as if it's a treat.
Snowie coughs - from choking I guess - when he drinks water while he's standing in the pool, i.e. The water height is quite high, at his shoulder height. But if he drinks from his bowl, he doesn't choke, i.e. Water is low down.
