    Re: Maisies here!

It is lovely them playing together, and I cant wait for maisie to be big too, they will look lush together.
I am ok thank you :) im having occasional waves of sadness hit me, today I smelt something that reminded me of the smell of the fur on Ezra's head between his ears, and it made me well up. I loved that smell, it would make my tummy swirl when I smelt it, the same happens when i smell murphy and maisies smell. Sorry im a bit wierd. Lol. I am so so so glad we have maisie though, its like we knew something was going to happen to Ez and that I would need a distraction, obviously I love murphy but he doesnt require so much attention and would happily have led in bed with me for days on end, but i couldnt do that with Maisie. So lucky to have her.
I started to charge the clicker with her the other day. I stopped using it with murohy because he started reacting really wierdly to the noise like he was scared. Whemi was doing it with maisie he looked at me like I was an alien and hid in the kitchen! Very odd. I also charged me saying good. I have been really strict with her not being rewarded for jumping up and its working well. Im looking forwar to starting the puppy class at widgets farm with her early feb. :)

Ah, lovely to hear from you Frankie. It must be a bit hectic at home right now with little Amaiseballs keeping you busy. I'm glad she's helping you though this time and you have a little monkey to focus your attention on.

Weird about Murphy's reaction to the clicker - has anything happened to scare him, maybe using it while fireworks were going off etc (if he's even scared of fireworks)? Do you think you'd be able to charge it again with him, or is it a lost cause? Maybe get a different sounding clicker and starting again? I'm just thinking you don't want to have to upset him while training Maisie, or have to have him out of hearing distance?

Iv given up on the clicker for murphy. I dont know why he is like it, nothing at all has happened that should make him scared of it so its really odd, but never mind. I think I will keep them separate whilst I do training with Maisie as murphy is a distraction and she is easily distracted!
Im really pleased as last night she slept from 11.30 through to 7! Up till last night I have been setting my alarm around 4 and waking her up to go out but last night I was exhausted so thought i would leave her and see what happened and she was fine! I let her out at 7 and as it was still dark thought id see if i could get away with putting her back into her crate for another hour or so and she did and was fine! Woop.

excellent!!! amazing what an extra bit of sleep will do for US! :)

distractions during training ::) I was trying to do some stuff last night in the living room, and hubby was intolerable... he doesn't understand positive training or shaping a behavior or cues and rewards.... :-\ :-\ :-\ it was so frustrating...

note to self...don't try and train when hubby is around...it's worthless....and yet he expects her to behave like a calm 4 year old couch potato lab. ::)

    Very odd day so far!

Maisie has had loads of accidents this morning, she usually only has a couple in the evening, but today its like shes forgotten everything. She is also quite unusually subdued, not really playing, and cuddling up with me on the sofa but not following me when i move. Very odd! She also has fairly runny eyes. Shes having her jabs tomorrow, shall i wait and speak to the vet then?

Re: the clicker - sometimes the "click" noise is very loud to the dog's sensitive ears, so much so it becomes an aversive. Perhaps that is the case? Sometimes putting some tape over the button can make a softer noise, or removing the button and just using the metal pad underneath it.

Re: Maisie - could be that she has a UTI. I would keep an eye on her and if she seems to getting worse I. Terms of lethargy, or not eating, or runny poos or whatever, then call the vet but otherwise I imagine it could wait til tomorrow. Keep us posted!

    Re: Maisies here!

Just thought id give a maiseballs update!

She had her second puppy class yesterday. It was funny as she was completely different from last week! Last week she was reallynervous and quiet and didnt want to interact with any of the other dogs, but yesterday she wanted to play and was barking and all sorts! I have spent a lot of time socialising hee twith other dogs this week which i think helped with her confidence!
I mentioned her runny eyes in a previous post, and have since been to the vets and she has a little bit of conjunctivitis in one eye. So she has some eyedrops, although i am still concerned and will prob be back at the vets tomorrow because she has started really squinting with that eye and its really bothering her still even after 4 days of eye drops.
I took her to my uncles last night (murphy went to my dog walkers house for the evening) and she met their 2 kids and their 9 month old cocker rosco. I was a little worried to start with as the girls are quite shrill and excitable and i wasnt sure if Maisie would be abit overwhelmed as she hasnt met little girls before but she was great, and she also got on well with Rosco although he was quite boisterous when playing with her so we split them up a couple of times when they were getting silly. Maisie was brilliant and didnt have any accidents whilst their and even asked to go out later int he evening which i was really pleased about, she still has a few accidents at ours but its def our fault!
Shes really snuggly at the moment and everytime i sit down on the sofa she snuggles into my lap which is lush :)
Looking forward to her meeting some of the others on the forum next week in bristol!

    Re: Maisies here!

Oh dear. Just got back from the vets. Maisies squinty eye may be because of Entropion. The vet isnt completely sure as because her eye is inflamed that might be causing it, but its hard to see. She has another set of eyedrops which are antiinflammatory and then we have a follow up on friday. Poor baby :(
