Hollie has started to not eat her meals unless we are in the kitchen? We only give her 20-30 mins to eat each meal but she still won't eat it, should we just carry on leaving her to crack on and will eat when hungry or should we stand and wait till she has eaten? X Thanks
Re: Meal times Wow no such problems here Rolo eats his meals in 60 seconds flat. He knows when he is about to be fed too and he becomes very intolerant of everyone. You can't pat or stroke him he is just so focused on food coming. I'm no expert so hopefully some one with some experience will be able to help. Kris
Re: Meal times I had this with Molly till fairly recently, till she was about a year old I think. Not sure what the 'right' answer is but being a softie I stood next to her. (In fact what she really liked best was for me to feed her by hand!) Very odd, none of my previous dogs have behaved like this.
Re: Meal times If you think she is just being fussy, ie there is nothing wrong with her, I'd put her bowl down for 10 mins, go about your business (if that's in the kitchen, fine), then take it up and throw it away. Same at next mealtime and so on...
Re: Meal times Never ever had any problems with Bouncer, I actualy had to buy a slow feeder bowl to slow him down. So I cant realy advise.
Re: Meal times Same as Bouncer, here. Cooper (8 months) inhaled his food....I still feed him three times a day.....four cups total. So I purchased two slow-feed bowls. Now, instead of 10 seconds, his food lasts 10 minutes.
Re: Meal times Crumbs - Gypsy doesn't make it to 20 seconds! I used to have a fussy Cavalier. I picked it up after 5 mins and gave him no treats 'till the next meal - he never starved himself
Well it hasnt slowed him down that much, maybe 4 mins to eat the whole lot now, rather than 10-20 seconds
Re: Meal times She used to inhale her food until she had her runny tummy now some meals she doesn't finish, if her meals are in her kong wobbler she finishes all, will keep an eye
Re: Meal times Sara had the same issue. After her 2nd bout with a parasite, the vet put her on a bland canned food diet for five days. Just about starved her. Now her bowl is empty in 10 seconds.
Re: Meal times Elsie eats whether we are there or not but Betty Chihuahua is a little different we have to get her started by hand feeding first few mouthfuls and if the bowl isn't to her liking I get another and put it in that or she likes my floral saucer if all else fails. She likes the bowl or saucer held while she eats and tipped slightly. Fussy - what on earth makes you think that Oh and if she is having gravy that has to be in a separate dish she doesn't like sloppy foods.
Re: Meal times Hollie is waiting for a chicken leg I think so no raw until she eats her kibble for a couple of days
Re: Meal times
We only give her 20-30 mins to eat each meal
Er 47 seconds to consume 125 g of kibble....ok Dexter is greedy and fast but that is a long time Ester... Julie is right if there are no other underlying issues then I'd pick it up too...you say she is waiting for a chicken leg.....I think your girl has got preferences and excericese her right to choose!
