Loki had a good night. No whining in crate and no panting.
In the evening yesterday my husband carried him up the road for a 5 min look at some cars going down a road. He was panting a bit at that.
The dog behaviourist is coming this morning for our puppy head start consultation so hopefully I will learn some more useful info

My new pup isn't at all anxious but she pants a lot compared to my older dog, and also needs water a lot more frequently. This is wearing off as she gets a bit older - I just think she got hot and wasn't that good at cooling herself. I swapped her thick crate mats for cotton towels and that did help. It's been hot here. And being carried wrapped up in a human's arms might be pretty warm...

Yes maybe he's been a bit hot in the crate at night as it was a lot cooler last night so that could explain why he was better. Though sometimes it's more like fast breathing/heart rate so not too sure.
I've not long popped him in the crate this morning to get the kids dressed (lazy summer holiday mornings) and he whined a bit but then went to sleep. Going to open it again now as he's woken up again. Probably wants to lay on the cool floor.
I could try towels when it's warmer again

Good point, my older dogs shift the vet bed aside and sleep on the bare crate when too hot, but a pup wouldn't do that. Maybe fold the bed bit in half and leave a bit of bare crate?

Yes, Pongo really hates the heat - he pants a lot and looks for cold tiles to lie on.
I make ice-cubes with crumbs from his treats in them (to use up the crumbs and dust at the bottom of the treat bag!). He just LOVES them in warm weather.

Last summer when we were on holiday in Spain with my two dogs and my sister's cocker, we made huge ice bombs, by filling balloons with water, freezing them and then removing the rubber before giving them to them. They were a massive hit with all the dogs. You should try that with your crumbs, Rosie :)

Oh, if you have a doggy pool, they're great fun thrown in there, so they can bob about. They don't last as long, but it's great fun watching the dogs try to pick them up :)

Our breeder in preparation for taking our pup home next week suggested to put one of the neck warmers into a fluffy water bottle covers, sprinkle a drop or two of Levander oil on and leave it in the crate with the pup to snuggle next to, she said it always stopped the whining and crying and relaxed them, she said she's been doing it for years and it always works for her. I haven't tried it myself yet but I have one ready for next week.

We moved Loki's crate into the middle of the bedroom last night and he was a bit more restless overnight. Moving it by the door tonight so hoping he is okay as we do want him to go downstairs soon

Potty training going well. The odd accident inside but most outside.

We saw the dog behaviourist yesterday who gave me some extra tips on things and after speaking to him I am going to change Loki's food from Eukanuba to Orijen. He said raw feeding is best but Orijen is one of the best kibbles.
Loki's poos have been formed but soft and he goes about 5 times a day on the Eukanuba

Socialisation, he went out to see some more traffic yesterday evening.
This morning we took him for short while round the local garden centre and pet shop and bought him a mesh harness to get used to, though he'll probably only be in this one a few weeks

He's getting a little more bitey but not too bad. Mainly out the garden when kids are playing or I'm playing/training with him and he gets excited

We've had no accidents in the house today! Well he started to do one in the kitchen this morning but managed to carry him out for most of it. And at least a couple of times today he has sat by the door when he has wanted to go out. :)
We had more visitors today, friends and their 4 year old and 1 year old. Loki was very good. He also met the lawnmower and he noisier Hoover. He was a bit alarmed by the lawnmower and ran in the kitchen and sat by my feet. I popped him in the crate to do the noisy Hoover as it's quite loud and thought he'd feel safer. He was just barking at it from his crate though. Bless him.

Thought I'd give a little update on Loki.
He's now just over 11 weeks. Seems happy and settled. Now happy to sleep on his own in his crate in the kitchen with us upstairs. He is fine going 6-7 hours at night before we take him out for the toilet. He's fine going in his crate with a frozen kong when I have to pop out.

He still likes chewing certain things like laces, door frames etc but is still pretty good re biting us. He's left no marks on me anyway and generally only goes for the children's clothes or socks. He only had moments of biting, most of the time he's very good. Just follows me about and looks at me a lot.
He had his first puppy class yesterday.
He loved the being the centre of attention from the other dogs and loved them jumping all over him (to get it all out of their system before the training started)
There was also a 17week old yellow lab there, well what a difference in size! She and Loki liked each other.
In the training we worked on 'chin target', 'eye contact', 'hand touch' and 'spin' (for a bit of fun). I have to say, Loki was very good at all of them. He cottons on quickly!
Very good in the car too. Only a tiny bit of quiet whining at times.

Such a good boy. Sounds so similar to Storm. She is 11 weeks on Monday. Cannot wait for our first puppy class. It is on the 6th October. X

Can I ask where you got the car crate? Looks ideal for bringing young puppy home / out and about until they are bigger
