hi everyone, meg has been home for an hour after her op, and she is crying :'( the vet has sent home tramadol for her and i have to give her it tonight, she doesnt know what to do with her self, and is obvously in pain i feel so guilty to because i was enjoying the break from meg today, how bad is that,
Re: meg not coping Oh I'm so sorry, it's so difficult to see them hurting.....she will feel better soon, honestly xxx
Re: meg not coping So sorry to read this , if its any comfort to you, my Lab boy Sam cried and cried for hours when he came home from being castrated , it wasn't pain but was just a general confusion due to the anaesthetic , he hated not being in control , so maybe its the same for poor Meg . Give her lots of comfort , I closed all my curtains and made a comfortable bed for Sam and he eventually fell asleep , hoping she feels lots better soon .
Re: meg not coping I know it's horrible but it's quite normal for them to cry a lot - they may be in pain and are probably disorientated from the anaesthetic. Just try to keep her comfortable and give the meds as prescribed. She will feel a lot better in the morning.
Re: meg not coping It is usually the anaesthetic which makes them cry and wander about. Even though I used to work for a vet, I still got worried and concerned when my boy was castrated, so much so that my vet decided to call and see me on his way home! He was soon ok and then the problem was to keep him quiet. Don't feel guilty for enjoying a quiet day without Meg Will give you strength to cope with this evening!
Re: meg not coping I agree that a lot of it is just feeling weird and disorientation. It's upsetting to see but it will pass and she will be back to her normal self before you know it. And don't feel bad for enjoying the break. When my dog gets picked up for daycare I love it
Re: meg not coping I hope Meg has a speedy recovery and her pain is eased by the medication, best wishes to you both,
Re: meg not coping Same is happening here....just picked Cooper up from his neutering ... he is six months old....and since I got him home he has been crying/whimpering and will not settle....put him in his crate and he slept a bit but then woke up 15 minutes later and now he is lying on a blanket at my feet chewing on a bully stick, but still crying....as you all say most probably totally loopy from anesthesia and I just gave him an anti-inflamatory but was given nothing for pain. Imagine it will get better overnight....I feel so sorry for him because cannot do much more than make him comfortable. So I feel your pain!!! Let's try to make the best of it for today and know that tomorrow will be better.
Re: meg not coping Thanks for asking Karen....Cooper slept in his crate all night without a whimper! And he is his old energetic self this morning. Trying to keep him calm is almost impossible but am sure the anesthetic is still in his body so he will take it easy this morning and then I'll take him for a walk around noon and again this evening. Hope Meg is doing the same as Cooper!
Re: meg not coping Poor things. I do hope it is short lived. I am a bit wary of tramadol - when Lilly had it she couldn't walk - back end kept collapsing - and she was hallucinating. This was after a relatively minor soft-tissue injury and not even an anaesthetic involved. Does similar to some people. Important to get pain meds though. I hope all is right as rain come breakfast. Fingers crossed xx
Re: meg not coping hi eveyone, thank you for your support, much appreciated, meg was still the same yesterday.crying most of the day, really felt so sorry for her, kept her as comfy as possible with lots of TLC well this morning she is back to normal, big sigh of relief ;D yvonne so glad cooper is doing well to,
